Yes they did. It was fully rebuilt. I havent been able to really test them out yet I still need to get the 1" awd master cylinder as well.

I think mine only have ~30K on them. Who rebuilt yours? Self completed? Seems like such a (albeit necessary) nuisance to rebuild practically new calipers.

EDIT: Nevermind. Glanced too fast over post #42.

I would actually advise against powder coating the calipers. Brembo actually told me that directly because of the evasive nature of the powder coating process. They told me they've seen calipers ruined by the process. Just some food for thought.

They're in the oven for about 10-20 minutes @ 450*F IIRC. Did Brembo give any more details about the consequences of powder coating calipers? Ruined in what way? Cracking, failing, malfunctions, leaking, etc?

Brembo told us the same thing i was ROFL

I would like to instruct brownbo that they shouldnt powder coat their calipers as they apparently dont know what they are doing either hahah

its a freakin caliper. Not just that but its a race caliper. If you cant rebuild it trackside its worthless. Its a piston in a hole with a seal, seriously.

I'm looking into doing Evo brakes on my 96 Talon. I was wondering where you guys that have done the conversion have gotten your galant steering knuckles? Also about how much did it cost you to do the whole conversion?
Thanks in advance!!

Here is my cost breakdown
evo front brakes $400
evo rear brakes $200
knuckles $400
powdercoating and caliper rebuilds $300
Performance Friction floating rotors $700
rear rotors $200
pads $300
1" master cylinder $150
--------
$2650

Stoptechs would have been a cheaper option for me. However I wanted the upgradability of being able to use any evo brakes as well as spindles which can now accomidate wheel speed sensors that I needed for skid, traction control systems and data acquisition. If your using DSM hubs your bolt on brake upgrade options pretty much end at smallish stoptechs. I didnt want my brakes to turn into "brownbos" and I wanted top notch rotors so you could definitely do it for cheaper.

^ That's why I'm sending the rotors to JNZ over the winter. I hate the poop all over my rotor hubs now. If I'm gonna upgrade my brakes, might as well go all the way and have them professionally done. :shrugs: Blanks will work for me, thank you very much.

The black on black is gonna look nice. :D

Who did you go to for rebuilding the calipers? Some of the pistons in mine are hard to move.

Those that ordered JDM knuckles through mitsumissle: Did your knuckles come with wheel bearings? If not, do you reuse the old ones or buy new? Thanks.

I'm doing the conversion currently, but don't have the knuckles yet.

You can reuse your old one. LOL

Does anyone know of stock 2GB GSX wheels will work with Evo brakes? Im ready to buy everything I need for the brakes, but Im partial to my custom painted stock wheels, and dont wanna get rid of them. just wondering if theyd fit. Maybe I'd need some spacers and longer wheel studs?

Or if someone that has evo brakes could try bolting the stock 2gb gsx wheel to their car and let me know, that'd be great LOL.

Not a chance. The spokes would be like in the middle of the caliper.

Also guys I still need to do the master cyl so I dont know which one to use (yet). But I still think the car really needs it with those brakes. AWD cars came with the larger master already

A friend of mine did the conversion and said the bearings were unusable after removing them. Guess the error was in the method of removal. He bought two new ones at 175 each. Ouch.

Thanks for the info. :thumb:

One more question: How hard is it to remove the spindle? I'd like my install to go as efficiently as possible once I start. Thanks..

Would testing wheel offset on an actual Evo to see if theyll work fit my 2G + Brembo set up work to see if theyll fit or not? *Thats probably really hard to understand*....

If I put rim X on an evo, and it clears the brakes, would rim X clear evo brakes on my 2g? maybe thats better LOL. I have wheels I wanna get from my buddy but Idk if theyll fit, but my friend has an evo, so I wanna see if theyll fit his evo first.

I say yes. Because the usual fitment problems stem from the caliper not fitting inside the rim, successful test fitting on the evo should clear you of any problems on the DSM.

You could just save yourself the time and hassle by finding out what the offset are of the wheels you are trying to test. Stock EVO wheels are +38mm. If the wheel you are trying to test is +38 or less, it will fit. If it's more ( +39mm and up), then they won't fit.

This is the EVO5 wheel on my car. It's 17 * 7.5 and off set is +38.

My Friend put the evo brakes on his car when he did the awd conversion. His brakes work fine with the stock gs-t mastercylinder. No need to change it.:thumb:

The Evo 5 was introduced January 1998, so yes they are 10 years old.
No , what I mean is they look like 10 year anniversary edition Eclipse rims.
I realize that they are not now, but they do look like it.
