So I have some really dumb (maybe) questions about turboing my 420a. I have been watching the site for awhile now and own a 95 N/T with 120,000 miles that I rescued from death. I was thinking turbo and was wondering if the EVO was a good choice. Will it be easy to find a manifold flanged for it? What do I do as a wastegate option? I am in the process of buying the neccessary fuel upgrades, vortech 12:1, walbro 255 a full 3" exhaust. What problems am I going to run into going this route? Can I get a 3" downpipe? I just need some general help from people more knowlegeable in turbo conversion helping put together a custom kit without breaking the bank or wishing I just went with the hahn kit. I'll have to enlist a shop for all my welding needs.

If you want to use a MHI flanged turbo, you are going to need to build your own manifold. The 420a turbo aftermarket only seems to cater toward T3 setups.

Any suggestions on a comparable performance turbo with a T3 flange?

What do you think about a T3 garrett 57 trim with .63 AR will this turbo run well now AND grow with my HP needs?

actually just want a car to have fun with and roast some honda guys now and then, and have street manners as a daily driver.

Then i would say a 57trim is a little over kill, A 16g or even a 20g sounds more like what you want. Keep in mind a 16g tuned right will make 350-400hp with good street manners and little lag. Or you can go to a 20g which is capable of 450-500hp with good street manners but a little more lag (not much). I have the 20g myself and im happy with it but then again im just know getting the car running right a like 3 psi :D But i hope to push about 320whp when im done here which will probably include me going to a portfueler :thumb:

I like the idea of the big 16g but wanted more choices, hahn is the only one who makes it in a T3 so I guess I will give them a call and get a price...liked the evo @ $545!!!!!! But also would like easier flanges without having to have a manifold fabbed. Cast ebay manis are like 130, lots of guys here running them, slowly building my own kit with christmas bonus money...Merry turbo to me!

Yea i would say give hahn a call, i really cant see the 16g being much more than $600 but i could be wrong But yea i think t3 is what your going to have to go with. But i would not recommend a ebay manifold though, Mainly because i have actually heard of them cracking in halve and falling off the car:nono: But they are cheaper so i mean its up to you if you want to take the risk, Its not my money :p

I'll do some more manifold research now that I know what I am going with. Thanks for helping me make up my mind. When I call hahnare there any questions I need to be able to answer..or any options I should add? Really appreciate all the input from everyone and am open to opinions

Well that stuffs really up to you.. Your probably going to want to run a internal gate which i think is the only way Hahn sells them, I would go with a Hahn manifold too, But im not sure what options they offer so if you want, just ask them what they offer and go from there. And no problem, Thats what were here for right:talon::dsm::laser: :thumb:

Trim doesn't really mean anything without stating turbo size... And just so you know a 20G is bigger than a T3.

OP: if you're looking for 300 HP, you're going to need forged internals along with MS or Portfueler for fuel. For turbo size you'd be ok with Hahn's 16G which DOES come with a t3 flange.

Side note: Hahn's 20G also comes with a t3 flange.

Ok.... Where to start...First what do you mean a 20g is bigger than a t3? And to get 300hp you dont need ms or portfueler if you do it rite. And also you do not need forged internals to make 300hp either (even though its a good idea, Just not a must). Everything else you said i already said. :beatentodeath:

OK...I found a hahn 16g to use for my setup. I have also been reading about the portfueler. I know I don't need it for my HP goal but maybe later with some forged internals it wouldn't hurt. I have read alot of favorable reviews on MSnS but my technical skills are zip and I know a guy wanting to get rid of his Portfueler that I can get CHEAP!!!!
With the portfueler I need what? A 1:1 FPR and my walbro 255? Do I still need a FCD? I have so many questions and so many more coming as I get to my install. Also with the portfueler, would it hurt to run it now or should I just stay with a 12:1 fmu? Thanks for all the imput

Are you planning on building the motor? Because if not I wouldn't usually suggest any of the fuel setups you mentioned other than the FMU if your staying under 9psi. (if you plan on pushing the stock block then I understand) But to me it sounds like your Money is not as your disposal.

My next option would be MSnS, but that requires some fine tuning, but it woudn't be a bad idea on the stock block with lower amounts of boost.

BigRand...
Planning on doing internals next year, just trying to get a setup under 9 psi for the stock block at this point. Thinking of buying a spare shortblock to do a full build on over the course of the year.

Okay I see...well I"m a megasquirt baby, I feed off of that info, and try to use it to the best of my cars abilities and my willingness to try things.

Do not sleep on hahns porterfuler though, as you can see we have a couple of members on tuners putting their cars in the 11's. I'm sure megasquirt has the same results, but not its not as prevailant on this website.

You have heard, yes. Do you have any experience running one? I have had one on my car for almost 1.5 years with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever. Spent $170 to have it shipped to my door and not looking to replace it anytime soon.

OP, you will be needing a rebuild before hitting the 300whp mark. Also, the AEM F/IC looks to be a good option for fuel management on our cars. I will be going with that hopefully not too far into the future. Need to pay off bills before buying anything for my car.

Chill out...I simply said i didn't recommend one because they are usually very poor quality, Not always....but usually. But I'm glad that you have had good luck with yours :thumb:

And to OP, After a little research DSM-ZERO is right, The gt28rs does look like a pretty bad ass street turbo. But probably is not cheap ( not saying that a 20g is :p) and garret says it tops out at 360hp, So it really depends if you want the ability to make more power later on. :dsm::talon::laser:
