4G63 Motors typically go from $900 to $1400 including manifolds and turbo. Most will be 89-91 GVR-4 motors with a TDO5-14B turbo. You have a 20% chance of getting 91-93 motor with a 16G turbo. You have a 5% chance of getting a 91-93 RS version motor with the yellow bodied 510cc injectors and a Big 16G. It is very hard to tell for sure exactly what motor you will be getting. The best way to try to ascertain which it might be is to ask them to look at the turbo and the color of the injectors.



I lived in Europe too. Nice place for guys like us. As far as N/T pistons go, I believe that they have different ring lands and aren't designed to be used in forced induction engines. That is why some people talked about the evo (8?) 8.8:1 pistons and seeing if they would work for us but, haven't heard a whole lot on that. All that seem to come of that was, they weren't usable for our motors due to the fact that they have the intake and exhaust valves on the opposite sides for us. Now, if the evo III pistons have that compression and a part number is available to us it might help.

I'm curious as to why you wanted to go with the EVO motor? Were you just trying to get a JDM motor as a replacement ...and that is what you got? Or were you getting a JDM replacement motor, and the EVO motor was an option?
Personally I think the Head and Intake manifold are probably the best part about the early EVO motors. Other than that, they're pretty much just a regular Crank Walking 7-bolt. Hardly at all different from the motor that came out of your car.
You should think about keeping the intake mani, and installing it on your car ....it could make a good difference in power.
Ok, I'm going to ask for pictures of EVO I-III motors bc everybody comes up with different stuff.
The best part about early EVO motors:
-exhaust manifold;
-turbos;
-CR, pistons AND CRANK is different then the 7 bolt DSMS!
-intake manifold;
-cams;
-cyl head is 2G ALIKE, NOT exactly a 2G.. EVO heads have different port geometry;
-we all know 2g trannies are smoother then 1gs!
-if you get a front clip or engine+tranny, most evo III tranies have double syncros and different gear ratios then 1G/2G/s. NOT TO mention the crappy recalled TCASE!
I could continue....
The early EVO motors are not another 7 bolt crankwalker!
Intake manifold
The intake manifold on the evo has shorter runners and a bigger throttle body. The throttle cable connects on the opposite side of the throttle body. I just pulled the manifold, fuel rail and manifold bracket and replaced it with my 2nd gen stuff. It all bolts in just fine.
I'm sure I can come up with the part number for the EVO III pistons/rods. I'm tyring to get ahold of my buddy that lives in London. He has had from EVO 1 to EVO 3 and has a shop. EVO 8 pistons won't work...
Hey Stickman I've been wondering about this since I've read it the 1st time.
I hate to ask about something that would be so obvious, but what do you mean the throttle cable connects to the opposite side of the throttle body? Do you mean the cable connects on the front side of the intake manifold? Like in between the motor and manifold, instead of the back side by the firewall?

the evo TB actuate from the side that we normally have the TPS on and the TPS is on the side that is our throttle cable actuator.
OK , so my buddy confirmed that stock pistons found in the EVO III have 8:8.1 CR.
I have the part number for them also, but it is irelevant for the US market since it is an MRXXXXXX part number not MD, and can't be ordered thru Mitsu dealers, not localy anyways.
