I currently have an evo 3 motor in my gsx and it came with an oil cooler. My question is can i run the motor without the oil cooler? If so will it affect the preformance or limit me in some way?

Thanks

The oil cooler isn't needed. It's a nice bonus however.
You really don't usually need to worry about the oil getting to hot unless you're rallying or something, daily driving, getting in the power every now and then, you don't need the cooler. but you should do an oil change and get the correct amount of oil in without the cooler, which probably holds half a litre?

Um yes you do. The EvoIII OFH is an air cooled OFH like that of the '90 DSM. All other models have a water cooled OFH. These are on DAILY DRIVEN cars that are turbocharged where the oil gets the hottest. To run without one would be stupid.

Either run the proper oil-air cooler or find a 7-bolt OFH that is water cooled and also a 7-bolt water pipe with the proper fittings to supply it with water.

I have both of the 7-bolt housings and the air cooled setup is far superior.

Just make sure you drill and tap that one bottom port for your oil pressure dummy light.

(I'd link you but I don't have that website bookmarked on my phone. Maybe someone can before I can get on my computer).

Edit: it's a 1/8th BSP thread pitch that you'll need to tap for. On this hole on the bottom (picture)
