tony

so if it was from japan it would be rwd? i no there is a gsr option tho. (in the usa) what is so special about it? oh and he said hes running like 25 or something boost stock... i never got a ride in it so couldnt tell you if its reallty running that boost... thanks for the quick reply to!

In the USA they offer three models of the evolution VIII

The GSR is the most "Standard" of the evos

There are not any Evos in the US that have over 300 hp

The only evos that have that much hp are the FQ 300 and 400. Those cars are not offered here.

Check out this site for more info.

Your friend is lying to you, sorry.

Tell him to get his story straight or just simply ask to see the papers on the car.
It's probably just a regular EVO if anything... HELL? It might even be a freakin Lancer!

:tease:

-Thanks
John

haha oh..so now its Germany? LOL. It would still be left handed in Germany. But no...if it was an EVO 8 it would just be the stock EVO. your freind needs some new freinds sorry.

Why the hell would you do that?? The EVOs over there are just the same power-wise as they are here. And the EVO in germany is like a $65,000 car. The UK version is 300 bhp, but thats still a HIGHLY priced car compared to here and they simply raise the boost. Either way you friend over-paid. And for what?!? A right hand drive car?

no its def. an evo 98red rs i was looking at it.
and hereitcomes whats so funny about that? i mixed up what he said???
its not right hand either. he said they shipped a certain amount over in left side drive....

Ok... *breathes* I'll say this one more time.

Your Friends A Liar and Can't Keep His Story Straight.
He bought an evo... that's known but he's sitting here lying to your face that it's from JAPAN or GERMANY, it's from your Local Mitsu Dealer probably. Ask him to see the information concerning the car... Maybe um...

A Price Tag From That Country?
The shipping country that brought it here?
The price he paid for it?
The way he got insurance so easily?

He's lying honestly, just realize it and drop it.
That's what I'd do.... Just let it go and laugh at him everytime he says it's imported.

Just let it go...

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! Your friend is lying

I lived in Europe for more then 9 years
9 YEARS!!!!!

There are NO Left-hand drive cars in UK.
NONE, ZERO, NADA, ZILCH!!!!!

They did not make a couple of LHD, they made NONE. Because it would be ILLEGAL!!!!!!

Thats like Ford saying!!! Hey, lets build some RHD Mustangs and sell them only in Mississippi. It doesn't even make sense. Why would a manfacture waste the money.

And why would he pay £24,000 ($41,1194) for a Base Evo and then pay a couple thousand (it cost me $2,300 to ship my Eclipse back) more to get it shipped. PLus THOUANDS MORE to get it legalized.

Does this NOT make any sense to you.

Ummm, my Evo is from Japan. :|

But seriously, it is a USDM model, not JDM spec. All '05's have the E-ACD, or ACD for short (electronic active center differential) It switches the programming on the computer controlled center diff. The three settings are :Tarmac (pavement/asphalt), Gravel and Snow.

it is rated at 276hp and 286 lb/ft of torque.

Mitsubishi doesn't officially refer to them as GSRs (just VIII or IX, but the others are VIII RS, IX RS or just RS to Mitsu, same with MR) but are unoficially referred to as such by the owners. The reason behind this is that when the car first came out, there was only one trim level, with sunroof and spoiler type the only option. It didn't make any sense to call it a GSR which would imply there are non-GSR models running around.

Correct, But his I wouldn't assume is a "GSR spec" simply because he swears he ordered it and shipped it here from Germany. I'm not arguing that there isn't a JDM SPEC or a German type EVO I'm simply telling the OP (Original Poster) that his friend is honestly just trying to hype his car up probably.. more than 50% of the people I know with modded cars swears there one thing and they end up something completely different.

It's nothing against his friend or anyone that has a car from another country, it's simply I'm going to be the second/third/fourth person to call BS on his friend having a German car and it probably not being one. . .

[Tom] Post penny pics of the cars purchase papers and the car showing GSR on the back of it. [/Tom]

I agree totally. I'll be the fifth person to call BS on it being a JDM spec GSR. In fact...

I don't think I have ever seen a GSR badge on any of them. Only the MR has a MR badge, I think. But the back of the European car has a much different badge then the U.S. cars that stretches all the way across, but you can buy those here. Last year they got really confusing and made all of them MR models, But it was MR GSR, MR RS and so on. This year MR is gone, but they have a GT model in place of it. At any rate. If he ever takes some nice photos of the car and its interior, it probably wouldn't take too long to figure out it is a USDM car.

Its really dumb to import an Evo really. Just so you can have S-AYC, seats that are too small, a radio that doesn't work and an ECU that doesn't like our gas. Plus they're illegal to own, impossible to insure legally and if you get caught the car has to be exported or crushed. Awesome.

Yes of course, I do know the GSR exists, I'm just saying it would take more then a picture of the back of the car to prove it. Mitsubishi calls them GSRs everywhere all over the world except the U.S.

Oh, you said early it was from UK, not germany. All the EVO's in Germany are LHD, all the EVO's in UK are RHD. You just seemed real hard-headed an intent on defending this guy. I was trying to break-through that hard head. For extra proof take a look at the picture. There is a plate, which I circled in yellow, this is a TUV registration plate, like our VIN plate (circled in red). He must have this displayed some where in the engine bay or on the dash were the VIN number goes to be registered in Germany. And its not easy to get out without cutting the engine bay all to heck. I still have that plate on my talon.

.

Thats not true, I have a re-spec'd German spec Talon. (its hard to explain). That I brought in from Germany. Also I know of someone that imported a EVO VII legally and another imported a 98-00'ish Galant VR-4. All legal, all insured. Its just alot of work and very expensive.

**edit** ok, for some reason the pic did not load so I linked a copy of it. The TUV plate is on the firewall near the battery, directly left from the VIN plate.

Okay, I guess I should have said very hard, not worth it IMO. Are you in the military? Does that make a difference? Your Talon and maybe the Galant are one thing. But no one has a legal Evo VII.

I don't speak from experience. I just know about the trials and tribulations of Evolution Imports with Evos, and the Motorex saga on Skylines. There may be a few legal Skylines, but right now most of them can't be sold. A bunch of people who have cars like this on the road, don't really have them insured properly. They call them something else entirely to sneak them in under the radar. When done properly, or improperly it is still very expensive like you say, and I personally don't think its worth the headaches when US spec Evos are readily available, easy to insure and easy to finance.

Just to clarify:

A GSR is just the mid-level evo. The rest of the world has RS, GSR, and MR. As was said earlier, since it debuted in the US as just the GSR model, having the designation on there made no sense.

However, it's identical to every other GSR in the world.

Except we don't get the S-AYC on any of our Evos. Mitsu probably doesn't think it would last under the stress of American drivers or the 2003 5/60 powertrain and now 10/100 powertrain warranty. They can get the 6 speed on RS and GSR models, we can only have the 5 unless it is an MR.
