Evo 8 Oil Filter?

ok i just went down to the mitsubishi dealership. the guy at the counter said that they use basically two filters now, one being the longer skinnier kind that does not clear the downpipe and the other one that is shorter and fatter and does clear it. the shorter and fatter one is used on 3000gt and evo 8's, and it bolt straight up to the 1g filter housing.

when i asked for a 93 eclipse oil filter, they gave me the long and skinny one, which does not fit. maybe they gave me the 2g filter or something.

I rock the RNR o2 eliminator downpipe and use the evo 8 oil filter for clearance issues. Works like a charm. I was told it has the same part # as a 1g big oil filter....can anyone verify or negate this?

I've had some light dirt scratches on 2 of my 6g72's mains. Yeah, how?

That's what the oil filter is for

I fail to see what this has to do with the topic of different filter sizes. You probably should have changed your oil & filter more frequently. That's got nothing to do with filter size. A larger filter allows for more oil capacity and possibly a little more cooling/filtration surface are but that's it.

Every 3000 miles with mobil 1. Enough to leave a dent in the bank. I WILL admit though I used the $4 Pennzoil no-name filter a couple of times. I was ignorant before I read that article on oil filters (above). It's a possibility

Anyway, you answered your own question.

No I didn't. Small filter should still trap all particles. According to you all EVOVIII's will suffer from bearing surface wear because of the small filter.

it looks liek the evo8 filter isn't really smaller in cubic inches. it's skinnier, but also much thicker.

Alot of people used the 3000GT filters for DP clearance with no oil filtration problems.

I said using a bigger filter is a better idea.

SPECIFICALLY where did I say it will cause bearing wear? Thats what I thought. Stop making shit up. I back up all my claims with PROOF of WHAT HAPPENED to me. Either my filter was trash and didn't filter, or there was enough crap in there to start to run through the bypass.

I help and have trolls like you put words in my mouth and come and slap me in the face. What is wrong with you.

Nothing wrong with me. You are the one giving bad advice like telling the guy to re-locate his filter when any of the smaller filters used on the 2G or EVOVIII will suffice. You made the funny comment about dirt in the oil also.

BTW: If you want PROOF of WHAT HAPPENED. My car ran fine for years with the 2G small filters. I switched to the BIG 1G filter and I spun a rod bearing after about three oil changes using the big filters. The point is that shit happens regardless of what you use.

"Better safe than sorry" is bad advice then. If it never happens like you say, then why did it happen to me. Hell, why do we change our oil then why not just run it on the factory stuff for 200,000 miles. Funny comment, is it? Yes there is nothing wrong with a small filter, but from my experience I wouldn't. Go shove a maple tree up your ass, 'a'? Canuck. Yes, I know that was probably unwarrented, but then again so is my help so I'm sorry I ever did.

One last thing: I work at a shop, and I started on my Spyder GSX conversion, was taking pictures, and found many, MANY junkyard upgrades for the DSM from different cars with same OE manufaturers in our lot. Delete this user name; I'm not sharing anymore and I'm not coming back. This is the last time I help anyone on the internet. Please, tell me good riddance and try insulting me more, it just adds to the satisfaction.
