2G Evap emissions leak

So my car threw a evap leak code I took it in to get tested to see where the leak was coming from and the guy at the shop told me that their scanners say my system is running fine and when they did a smoke test they couldn't find where it was leaking. Any thoughts? They told me just to come get my car and take it to a dealership, But hey they didn't charge me for anything.

If it was P0442 and occurs every 100 miles (this is when test is done) it commonly is a leaky gas cap.

It could also be the fuel fill pipe (from the gas cap to the tank) that is where my leak is. The pipe gets rusted from water and dirt thrown up from the road off of the back of the tire. Mine is a 99 GSX and the pipe is no longer available/being made. I get a P0455 or P0450...I forget which one at the moment. I just clear it and carry on.

That is for the GST. That one is still available, I got one from JNZTuning and will have to mod it to make it work. The one for the GSX AWD is not available. I call the Mitsubishi assembly plant in Normal Illinois and spoke to an engineer about it. He told that they have not manufactured any in the last 6 years. He did say, I feel your pain as he personally owns 2 GSXs and 1G GST and he is in the same boat.

Luv2rallye, man those parts are rusted! So that is what it all looks like, mine is completely different....except for the shape of the main pipe. My emissions piping is very different, as I don't have all of those hoses and that other container looking part. My charcoal canister is in the front next to the inter cooler.

Yes that is the one for the 2g GST california emissions. The other container is the fuel vapor separator (another $90). All of my parts were completely rusted and broke off trying to remove them. Some had holes rusted completely through. My carcoal canister is in the fuel tank. I now added the shield below at the spot where nothing prevented road mud from splashing on the fuel filler pipe (which is probably what did it in). I also rust proof painted the new one.

to the OP, the best way to find an EVAP leak is take to a reputable shop that has a smoke machine. EVAP systems and parts are very sensitive and can be damaged by too much vacuum or pressure. The smoke machines push smoke through the system at .5 PSI and then the tech will use a black light to see it. My brother is a mechanic and has his own shop and I took it there and we hooked up his smoke machine and found an EVAP and a vacuum leak fairly quickly.

Thanks a lot guys! code PO450 is what mine is throwing I'll have to order one of those aftermarket pipes and replace mine. Its also throwing PO1004 I believe or maybe its 1005. Either way nothing major.
