ETS 1g pro-race intercooler bumper beam trim question.

HI guys. As the title reads. To those that have the 1g pro-race intercooler. How much fo the bumper beam did you guys trim?? Because I pretty much work 7 days a week, I'm doing this intercooler install in stages. I went to the local junk yard and bought an extra pumper beam. This way I can take my time on triming it and my car will still be available to drive. Besides, if I mess up, then I still have an extra bumper beam.

I guess nobody knows how much the trimming dimensions for the bumper beam? The kit does come with instructions on how to install the intercooler but it doesn't say how much to trim the bumper beam.

Throw it away! I chucked both of mine. Easy 60-65 lbs gone, if not more since my rear one, was packed! with dirt.

I just cut the whole center out of mine. I still have the end nubs mounted to the bumper brackets to support my bumper cover. Thankfully, with a 1gb, you have the center metal brace so no bumper sag issues there.

And Im not running that intercooler, mine is 34"x10"x3.5" overall from end tank to end tank.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just trim and fit, trim and fit, until I perfectly get it. Now the only thing that I need to buy is a plasma cutter.

Its not that heavy (front is 40ish, rear is around 38lbs) but you can notice difference in the cars performance with both of them off.

It's not the best idea to just take the bumper beam off and call it a day.
The top of the beam is needed so that you can securely fasten the bumper cover back onto the car. There is a big strip of bolts that screw into the top of the bumper beam. You can see them in the JM Fab race bumper support here:

This is a good example of what you need to do.

Mine was took really far..... My beam looks like the JM Fab race support.
I'll see if I have any pics of it. If not maybe I can take some.

The bumper cover on my 92 laser is deffinately bolted down to the bumper support. I can get a picture if you want.

Yes, show me that. I dont see how that would work when the bumper cover is raised up between the headlights unless plymouth decided to have the bumper support conform to the rise of the cover in the center on your car. So you are telling me that you dont have the bracket that I have pictured? Your steel bumper support is wht this part of the cover is bolted to?

Just went to take a picture and the battery for the camera is dead. I see where you are alking about. The part you are talking about has holes but no bolts or bracket on my car. I am guesing maybe because of my fmic. My fmic bolts to the hood latch assembly.

In this thread you can see how my fmic mounts. Is this where the bracket is supposed to be that you are talking about?

Ummm.. 40+38= 78.. And I said 60-65 or more with both off...

The bumper will mount fine using the center support, which the bumper rests on and has 3 bolts in it. And then 2 bolts into each fender behind the side marker lights.

remember some people cant do math
but then agian some people dont jsut think, its easy like i said either cut the bumper support little by little or just buy a race one!!! oh well this thread is fun

A race bumper is good but I would still like a bit of protection if I ever get in a car wrect. . I wish someone would make a true bumper beam that is thin enough for FMICs but that is much stronger than stock.

No, I wouldn't be worried about the intercooler at all. I'd be worried for my personal safety and how much damage it would cause to the actual car. Thanks for the link.
