Hey whats the weight of a 6 bolt bottom, with pistons and rods? I know its a broad question but I need to get one shipped and wonder if anyone has ever shipped one and would know the weight.

I can, because I just got done shipping two over Easter break.

First go to Wal-Mart and pick up a 5 dollar, 18 gal Rubbermaid container. The colored ones, as they are not as brittle as the clear ones. Next, head to the Home Depot and pick up a sheet of 1 1/2 inch or 2 inch thick foam. A 4x8 sheet will cost you 6 or 7 bucks. At the same time, pick up some sheet plastic to wrap the block in. You'll also need 30 or so, short large diameter (or gage) screws. (Short #10 or larger sheetrock type or similar)

Strip the block bare. All accessories off. Brackets off. Head off. Flywheel off. Dipstick off. Front engine case with balance shafts and oil pump removed. And remove oil pan and the sump from the oil pump. Anything you removed, you can put in another container. (Believe me it's cheaper this way)

Cut a piece of foam to put in the bottom of the container. Wrap the bare block in plastic and turn it upside down. Put it in the container pistons down, then pack smaller foam pieces around the block. Cut some more foam to put on top of the "bottom" of the block after it's in the container. Then put the lid on.

Next run screws in to the lid to hold it on. Run them in every inch or so, and be sure to run them in at an angle. This will help keep them from pulling out. Alterante directions on the screws. You may also want to use some duct tape. The screws are definately needed.

Final weight will be 142-145 lbs. It'll cost you $65-$67 to ship it Fed-Ex Ground. And due to the weight it can't be delivered to a residential address. You'll have to pickup/deliver it to their warehouse. Or have it delivered to a buisness.
