How much can I expect to pay for this mod..? It sounds time consuming, and that to mean sounds expensive.

what 6 bolt bottom conversion? are you talking about just swapping in a 6-bolt? if so it isn't very expensive at all.

I mean getting rid of my 7 bolt crank and bottom end and replacing it with a 6 bolt crank and bottom end to eliminate crankwalk (if I end up having it)

Not that easy, sorry.

Please listen carefully to this.....

Crankwalk is not the horrible epidemic that every person makes it out to be.

You will also learn quick that just throwing money at thing that you dont need to will burn up cash real quick.

What you should do is drive your car and have fun with it. Save money for a 6 bolt ot buy the parts to build one. If you 7 bolt takes a shit them you will already have a 6 bolt ready to go.

Make sure you read this a few times.
I had 160k on my 7bolt stock bottom end and not any signs of crankwalk.

It's not something you should worry about.

Not that easy? Try not possible. The 6-bolt and 7-bolt cranks have different lengths and journal sizes. Just swap the whole block. I just took a picture that physically compares both crankshafts, and I circled where the differences are.

not to mention swaping the crank to a 7bolt block wouldnt solve the prob.

I want to do this too but i am slightly confused, i am getting a complete 6-bolt block with all components and i am buying a 1g CAS apart.

What do i need other than that??

I know machining the head to fit 6-bolt block bolts

Is $650 a good price for a mechanic to do the work?

I don't mean to sound like an arse, but why not just buy a 1g turbo head? I'm not sure if it will end up being cheaper than modifying your current head. Also, the 1g head flows better than the 2g head. If you really need a head, I do have a spare 1g turbo manual head, but I'm not sure if I want to get rid of it.

Well, if you got a 1g head, you could probably get that $650 dropped down pretty far since they'd just have to install the engine into the car (I believe you have to modify a mount, but I'm not entirely sure.) Try seeing how much it would cost if they didn't have to modify the head, and then see how that weighs into the price and if it's worth it.

I think he ment putting on his 2g head on a 6bolt block and crank. I've been thinking along the same lines recently and foud this;

Err, yeah, I guess it's my bad then :D. I assumed he meant bottom-end conversion as in just swapping out the crankshafts, since when people say "bottom-end" they refer to the crank/pistons.

but if i get a complete engine let's say, wouldn't i still need to rewire the CAS? and modify the mount?

The aditional work on a 1g block and 2g head would be the machine work on the head to fit the bolts, if that's a lot i will consider the complete 1g

sorry to be an arse but if i want to put in a complete 6-bolt in i would just need to modify the mount and wire the CAS right?

Also why don't any of those tutorials say anything about machining the head to fit 6-bolt block studs??

The reason they say nothing about putting a 2g head on a 1g block is because it's not the "smartest" choice to make according to magnus or rre.

^ Go there to see why exactly ^

No it's not just "mod a cas and a motor mount".
You got a few things you need to do there's some small things that should be done while doing the swap.

Not to be an ass myself, but if you want to know what all you have to do when doing the swap it takes about 30-45 mins out of your time to read both forums to know more about it. :)

Here's a kinda "walkthrough" pic setup from doing it.

ANY 1st gen engine you buy go ahead and do a FULL TIMING BELT change with new waterpump and decide weather or not to get rid of YOUR balance shafts.
