Hey guys,
I dont have much free time anymore and i just picked up a ACT 2600.
Since i dont have anymore free time, I need some shop to install it.
Since i have AWD, i heard it costs more to install. Any estimates on a Clutch installment on a 90 GSX??
Thanks,
Dan :dsm:

shop here is 300$ or so

id do it myself in 5 hours, so just do it this weekend on saturday morning ;)

Performance shops seem to want a lot more, especially if you're putting in an ACT or something (even though the install is the same as a stock clutch). If you go to a tranny shop or actual clutch shop, it shouldn't be too much.

for example;
here, both import shops want $400 just for labor.
An actual clutch shop only wants $280 for labor.

I'd rather give up a weekend then drop that much money though :p

I paid $300 for my clutch install and my buddy did it at his shop. I got very lucky that i have a friend in the import performance business. He installed my clutch, flywheel and lsd just for $300 labor. Not bad at all for 2 days work....

Now this is when you think to yourself hmmm 300 dollars well i worked my ass off for that money, and the Time that i wasnt able to put my clutch in i was at work, working for the money to get it put in. I would Shedule everything off for like 2 days (usually dun take that long its just to be safe) and do it myself, just advice cause i mean 300 bucks can go a long way :thumb:

would an amateur mechanic be able to do it by himself (me) ?
I've never done anything serious in terms of repair. I've changed belts, starters, alternators, springs/struts, radiators, hoses, and oil :)

I assume I just need two jackstands to hold the front end of the car up and the "regular" tools. That and a weekend.

I've done everything on my car myself like exhaust, suspension, etc. But when it comes to something like a clutch which i've never done before i'd rather leave it to the pros to make sure it was done right. Plus the benefit of me working on it with my buddy was that i got to learn every step of the way. So if i ever need to do it again i could do it by myself. :thumb: BTW: I would never even touch a clutch job unless i had airtools and a lift. F&^% using jackstands and rachets, i'm sorry but that would just be a PITA!

I just changed my clutch yesterday. First time for me pulling a FWD tranny. The only difference between AWD & FWD is the transfer case removal basically...5bolts...slide it to the side & slide out the drive shaft...that is all the transfer case requires...(there is a difference in CV shafts up front too, but once transfer case is removed, you do pretty much the same as a FWD car.

So to make a long story short. I put my laser up in the air, I have air tools, no lift. I changed my clutch in about 10hrs. 3of those hours were getting the flywheel machined. I didn't think it was that bad to do myself. I had a tranny jack too...that made a HUGE difference.

Last weekend, I pulled the engine/tranny out of my talon for repairs...that took about 3hrs. Of course I had the head, intake, etc all off the car already. So we just had to pull the drivetrain apart and yank the engine.

I am with alot of guys, I would rather do it myself then shell out $300 to have it done. I enjoy working on my cars.

I just had a local mechanic install my Act a couple weeks ago. I think he charged me around 500 bucks labor. I'll have to find the reciet. I remember him saying it takes longer because the car was awd. Maybe I got ripped off I dont know. I know I definetly didnt trust myself to do it.

yeah i took mine to a local transmission shop and had them do it cause i really didnt want to mess anything up. they charged me 300 , it was going to be like 240 but i had to get my flywheel resurfaced and stepped, and i know i didnt get jipped cause i swung by after i got off work to see the progress and he had just got done taking the tranny out and i showed him they needed to resurface it. the mechanic looked at me like "why am i doing this then" i told him, "cause i dont have the lift, tools or patience to do it".

Out here where i live, i got a quote for $400.00 bucks to install a act2600. 1 yr ago, i changed my clutch myself in 2 hours belive it or not. No lift, no air tools. just a jack, some jackstands, and a tranny jack. It would probably take me about a month to work and save up $400.00 bucks for something that i have done in 2 hours.
It kinda sucks when people tell you its gunna be an extra $100 cus its awd.....come on now, its only like 5-6 bolts on the transfer case......they gunna take those bolts off in like 5 min with air tools. there goes 100 bucks for something i could have done in 10 min.
I can do much better things with that money.

Im from illinois... where your guy work at, may i ask...also more importantly....hook it up with my 2100 Clutch Install.. =)

It's a newer shop, just opened up this July. It called SPL Auto Tuning in Arlington Heights, IL. He's going to charge what most other shops charge for a clutch install, about $400 for clutch and flyhwheel.

I am with you...I just pulled apart my AWD Talon a couple weeks ago...5bolts is all it takes to drop the transfer case. Then the rest is easy going.

My Laser is only FWD. I would have been a bit quicker replacing it had I stayed focused and kept at it. I kinda messed around here & there...checked out other stuff while I was there...and about 5 trips to the parts store for things I didn't like and replaced...coolant lines, cotter pins, brake lines, etc....

Well,
Thanks for everyones help and estimates. I dont have time to install it myself, or I would do it ;).
Got an estimate for $275 labor from Mistubishi Graveyard. But, once again, I run into an even bigger problem.
I have constant ticks, (lifter tick im guessing), not starting after intake install(bad starter directly after install), dead batteries all over the place, grinding in transmission, bad clutch, and to top it all off, makes WEIRD sounds on turbo spools. This car has been nothing but money dump.
I love the car so much, instead of getting the clutch done, Im getting an estimate on a rebuilt engine and transmission.
I cant get rid of her, she is my favorite car in the whole world. AAAH!!!, Maybe, someday,
Ill have a completely, fully working DSM, one day indeed.
