Ok, So I finished fixing all my boost leaks. I took the car out for a drive and on my way back I boosted and then let off. It died on me. I started it up and every time I accelerate at all it makes this ticking noise. The noise is coming from the top right hand side of the valve cover but right underneath.I know its not lifter tick. It's way to prominate. and it's deeper but not as deep as a rod knocking. It only does this as the rpms go up at Idle you cant hear it.
Any ideas as to what this is. Thanks in advance for the help!!
 
I had a similar problem with my car. May wanna check your timing before you drive too long. I figured my problem was coming from a stupidity that my brother made when he rebuilt the engine. The engine would tick anywhere between 1500-3000 RPM. Few months later the timing belt broke on me. Luckily there wasn't any engine damage.
 
I finally got around to having my car checked out. I took it to "satan."
Well they called me back and said the bottom end went out. I was told when they pulled the dip stick out there was metal shavings in it. And the rod knocking noise I heard wasn't coming from under the valve cover but the bottom end instead.
I asked what they could do to fix everything and I was told I could put a short block in it. I said ok and what would that run me. They said probably around 8,000 total. My freakin car isn't even worth that much.
Couldn't I just have the bottom end rebuilt. Or will it need a complete new motor.

Funny thing Is I just got FPBig T-28 and all supporting mods on it. I took it out for a test drive right after install and leak down test and this all happened.

Is there a boost number that you would be willing to admit or RPM? I guess it's a good thing that it didn't scatter for you may be able to salvage some parts. It could just be bearings and a very complete flush of the oil system.

Who is going to pull it down, you or the dealer? You want to take a look at the inside of the filter and see just how much metal was trapped.

Ah, there we go. Eight days later, the rest of the story surfaces.

How much tuning did you do before the engine let go? How hard were you running it?
 
Well my booost was set at 15psi. I noticed it spiked up to about 20psi. I ran it to 7000rpm but only in 2nd. There were a couple of previous occasions where i hit about 75000-7600rpm in 1st. Aftre those incidents I quit running hard in 1st. I have had the car for 2yrs. and never drove it much cause it was always broke and I never had time to mess with it much.

I haven't decided if I am going to fix it or get rid of it. I deffinately wont be doing it myself. More than likely Im done with DSM's. I love the car but I dont have the knowledge or the time to learn more about them.

I have a brand new dattalogger and SAFC II just not installed yet. Does that count for tuning. I was always told it's the thought that counts. :laugh:

I can't imagine those numbers did it much good, might have been wiser to have worked up to those but you probably were frustrated with the turbo install. It just jumped up and bit you good.

Forget the $8,000, I don't thank they wanted your business so blew you out with that number. More than likely you could get away with $1000 or less in parts plus the labor. You could consider having someone pull the engine and then you do the repairs, then someon to install it. Otherwise you will take a bath with the engine not running so you have some decisions to make.

Who knows, maybe the bottom end was on it's way out and you just hadn't noticed.

Well about 3 weeks ago I purchased a 92 GSX. Unfortunately the engine needs a rebuild.
Would it work to put the 6 bolt in my 2g even though the GSX is auto and the Talon is manual.
