I have a 1992 eagle talon tsi awd. I have 1500 miles on a rebuilt engine. I have replaced almost everything on this car. The other morning I was driving to work and the cel came on and the car began to run very rough, gave it a little gas and it quit, did it 3 or 4 times on my way into work. Car ran fine until that day. Computer gave me a code 44. Everything got worse from there. My engine is running very hot but temp guage reads normal temp. but the engine is so hot you can't touch it and there is smoke coming out from around the exhaust manifold. Could the catalytic converter cause this problem if it is plugged? Any advise would be helpful.

I don't think a catalytic converter is the problem, but for to be sure take off it and try like that, if the problem still check the engine. :thumb:

code 44 is the ignition coil. But it can also be the transistor.. I just got this code the other day.. new coil, same thing. got a transistor at the junkyard for a 1$ and it runs great now.
