engine differences from a early 92 to a late 92

i have a 92 Talon TSI AWD with alot of bent valves and busted up pistons. I called some junk yards and the only engine i could find was out of a late 92 model and they said that it wouldn't work in my early 92. Does anyone now what the differences might be.

isnt that when they changed from 6 bolt to 7 bolt?

Thats what i was thinking but they couldn't tell me because they didn't know and the motor was still in the car.

That is correct, the late 92s are 7 bolts, early 92s are 6 bolts. They can be swapped but that would be stupid, so just find a 6-bolt.

Thanks for the help. I am planning on going through my 6 bolt and doing the rods, pistons, stroker crank, port work, new valves and all of the other goodies, But money is a little tight right now. So, i am just trying to find a cheaper alternative to get me back and forth to work for the time being.
