What are the differences between the early 95-96 engines & the 97+ ?

We're 95% done with an engine swap. We put a '95 into a '99, had to swap the intake cam, but that's pretty much it.
It fires up & runs, but not very good, it stumbles alot, and then wants to die after about 10 seconds.
If you hold it at ~1500rpm it's fine, but it doesn't want to idle on it's own for long.
Also:
- All new plugs, with semi-used Magnecor wires.
- Re-used the coil pack/transistor off the '99.

It is on empty, and didn't want to start again after about 5mins of starting/running/etc.
So hopefully it just needs gas! LOL

Any insight/suggestions in the mean time if that doesn't work?

more gas + fixing 4 uncapped vac lines = purrs like a kitten :D
