Engine choppy/ smokes when I give it gas??

1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD 5spd, EVO III Big 16g ported, 2nd gen pistons, HKS 264/272 cams, ARP Head Studs, Fluidyne radiator, Balance shafts removed, 2nd gen ported manifold, ported O2, Supra Sidemount, 2nd gen MAS, Dejon intake, walboro 255lph, S-AFC, turbo-back exhaust, ACT2600, SS clutch and brake lines, big brake upgrade with powerslots , KYB struts, A/F & Boost gauge, Blitz dual turbo timer, Greddy electronic boost controller, Greddy EGT gauge, 550cc injectors, Manual steering rack, all vaccum lines removed.


I just got my engine back together (Blown headgasket) crunk it up and it ran fine. I took it down the road and stopped turned the boost up to 18 psi and launched hard, my car started to studder and cut off. So far i've checked all the intercooler piping for leaks, I've made sure I've got spark, I've set the timing in a few diffrent places with no change, I've changed the plugs. When I launched the SAFC came loose and hit the dash and it has no power now I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it. The car cranks fine and idles a little choppy it just shudders when I give it gas like its getting too much gas or air I can't really tell what color the smoke is but the inside of the muffler is black so I think its getting too much gas. Isn't it kind of obvious that if the AFC is broken then your injectors are being treated as stock 450s by the ECU?

And get an AFPR.

Thanks for the reply. Honestly I just thought the AFC was a gauge and didn't help control anything. I rebuilt the top end but I don't fully understand the electroincs side yet. I've been around carb'd v8's all my life. Thanks for the help!

I just rebuilt a 96 tsi that has the same problem. Fired it and it seemed ok. Took it on the road and when I stepped on it it stumbled and started missing. Now it idles rough and it's sooting up the tailpipe. Post your fix when you find it. I checked error codes and I don't have any.
