i am looking to buy a new engine block or short block a brand new race block that can handle being built to over 300+hp and wanted to know if anyone knew where i could get one fairly cheap?

a stock 6 bolt 4G63 bottom end can take 450 hp, or more, if done correctly. no need to buy a "race" block. Search the classified for "6 bolt block", you can get one for fairly cheep.

Also you can try SlowboyRacing or Buscher. They both make shortblocks. Not for cheap but its new or rebuilt correctly at least. That is if you're insistent on having a new one instead of a used one.

You dont need a race block or head.

If you insist on having one, keep in mind that Slowboy uses a topline oil pump, which many on here have had problems with. Either ask them to use a OEM pump, or find someone else.

We build them with both. OEM pump is a few more dollars.

That I did not know, do you have that option listed on your site somewhere?

As stated, a 6 bolt block can handle a lot of power and won't cost you as much as a pure "race block". If you were to go with a race block, like the one from SlowBoy, Id suggest getting the OEM pump instead of the topline. In my opinion, building a race block with topline parts in it is silly.

Yeah,

When people buy from a DSM specialized shop we often make the assumption that they are looking out for our well being. Using inferior parts is kind of backwards ass approach to doing business, considering you advertise on this site.

And you guys charge enough I would think it should at LEAST be OEM quality. Most people buying from you put faith that you are going to use maybe even slightly bettter then stock/oem parts. But I think you should at least let people know, and offer the "upgrade" so they have a choice.

If I bought an engine or block for $2k-$4k, I expect it to last, and be able to support at least the same amount of power as a stock JDM motor that I can get complete, with a turbo still on it and a tranny still on it, and extra parts for $1700/shipped (and that's a long block).

Also makes me wonder what other "cheap parts" you guys use on your rebuilds. Any other cost cutting measures or short cuts we should know about?

Shop around, take your time to evaluate all your options.

Consider JDM, find a company that has been around for a while, not just any kid with a website.

Call and talk to them, find out about the warranty. You probably have to have it installed by a certified shop for warranty purposes though.

But anyway, if you find a good stock engine you're fine.

My point exactly. A "race" block should not have less then OEM quality parts on it. That makes no sence at all.

However, lets not turn this thread into a SlowBoy bashing thread. Vendors-reviewed has plenty about them on it, as well as a lot of locked threads on several DSM message boards.
