lets pretend i have a engine ready for cams as big as 280. all supporting mods on head ect ect. my question is do I need a engine management system to make the car run right. i would think with such an aggressive cam that fuel and air intake would be modified to the point where the ecu may not be able to compensate. is this something i would need to take care of before such and upgrade or what?

Assuming you have the supporting modifications for 280's already on the car, you should already have some form of tuning in place. If not, then you are going about it in the wrong direction.

I think you would benefit more from having adjustable cam gears so you can dial in the power, but if you have 280 you probably have an upgrade turbo and fuel system, thus you need a good controller, something better than SAFC. (ECMlink, AEM EMS, Megasquirt etc)

cool, thanks guys thats all i need to know.

Something else to ponder... with 280's you will loose a considerable amount of low end torque.. 280's are a great cam for 35r and larger turbo where the efficiency range is anywhere from 5000 on up. You would probably be much better off with a good 272 if you are still driving your car on the street, espcially since you still have a 14b. 272's are still good for making power well into the 500-600whp area, so you won't be limited if and when you decide to get a larger turbo down the road. 272's will make the car much more pleasureable to drive on the street.
