Electronics 101...Help! (Pictures postest A.S.A.P)

Thursday, was a horrible day. My break lights, my interior lights, and my headlight had a short.. OH NO! Fuse pops. Replaced, pops. Okay *&#@ this lets rig it: hellyeah:, i jumped in the car and went to go get my unhealthy chicken. On the way there, i thought to myself..."Do you smell that?" No...no...no... Okay i gotta stop, i pop the hood then notice the wires under the fuse box by the SMIC are on fire. After i investigate i noticed that it only burnt a little way down, but it burnt more than just those wires.So hell with it i cut the fuse box out went to the junkyard and purchased another one. So my question is, Do you guys think that was the wrong move? What would be the best way to rewire the new fusebox in?(same year car same features and awd). I'm trying to get my car ready by M.O.D. I'm still very confident in my dsm luxury.

Sounds like a dead short somewhere or the regulator is bad on the alt. Take the alt to get tested. As for the short. Its gonna be a fun one to track it down, and most shops wont touch it because its a PITA to the 10th degree . Make shure there are no wires that got shafed against the firewall or something in the engine bay. Replacing the fuse box isnt the only thing that needs replacing now. If wires a fryed or melted you need to replace the wire harness its self as well. Replacing the harness should fix the short as well. Its really easy to pull out and put in. There are 3 main harnesses in the DSM (interior, engine, engine bay). The interior and engine bay harnesses both plug into the fuse box by the drivers feet. Make shure you inspect the interior harness as well as that could cause an interior fire.
