Well I read my codes for my check engine light and I got code 43 which is 4 egr items if i remember right. Well anyway I took off my egr valve and cleaned it out and thought it might be sticking. Well didnt seem to be the problem. My idel is fine. If I unhook the battery to get rid of the code it will stay off untill I drive on the highway or cruise at a speed for awhile and it will pop back on and stay on. The only thing I have noticed is when I get to around 3000 rpms it feels like it had some hesitaiton. So my ? is what is usually the like main egr problems with these cars or ways to check which is the actual egr componet.

Code 43 is an EGR code so I'm guessing the ECU is a California emissions one. If your handy with a soldering iron there is a way to set it up for Federal emissions. Then you can get rid of the entire EGR setup and the code. There is an article somewhere that explains this process either on this site or the VFAQ but I could seem to find it.

EGR systems are found in all cars, not just CA spec editions.

I know that but don't only the Ca. spec ECUs throw the EGR code? Mine is federal spec and when I removed my egr system it didn't throw a code.

It depends on the car and how you removed your EGR system exactly. 2G cars, being OBDII compliant, are more likely to throw a code due to tampering with emissions equipment than 1Gs. However, both federal spec. 1Gs and 2Gs are capable of throwing emissions related codes... The ECU is smarter than most people realize, but it is possible to "fool" it into believing the EGR system is still there by either leaving the electronic solenoid in place or by possibly installing a resistor in its place. It all really depends on the specific car; sometimes you'll get a code, and sometimes you won't: but any DSM is capable of throwing an EGR related code, not just the CA spec. versions.

so removing the egr in the freemods section, like said there that has a chance to throw a code, and if it does how do you exactly remove that code where it wont ever show up because you dont have egr. Also where is the egr solenoid located?

all these is good info but none answers my ?. What could be causing my problems? I have not removed any of my egr componets from my car. Just poped on one day and has been anoying light since. The car also does not have cali emissions its in iowa and came from around here.

Bumping is a no-no, please review the site rules.
