ECU Trouble. Should I change it to a 91-94?

I am absolutely sure my ECU has gone bad. It is an EPROM. I have researched and found that you can put a 91-94 EPROM ECU on a 90 pretty easily. My question is, is it worth it to change it? I have not found an definate benifits. Please help me make the right choice?

I don't see why you would benefit by changing to a newer ECU unless you can't find a '90 anywhere. You need to replace too many other parts with no positive affects IMO for it to be worth it. I have a '90 eprom ecu around here somewhere, how much would you be willing to spend?

The swap isn't hard but to do it right will take more parts like jepherz said. If you just swap the wires the factory tach won't work right. I've got 2 90 non eprom fed spec ECU's here if your willing to trade for the dead 90 eprom.

I only have 200 bucks. I am still hoping mine is fixable, but if it is not I do have some of the parts I need for the swap, except for the ECU.

I'm just saying I don't see a point in moving to a 91+ ecu unless you can't find a 90.

Off the top of my head, the only real advantage I can see would be the additional closed loop range in the 91-94 code base ecus. There are some other minor differences like timing, but whether they are an advantage depends on your setup. The additional closed loop range can be put into your ecu (provided it's fixable) by just swapping the eprom for the e931 code found in the later years. It's definitely easier to just keep a 90 ecu in there. Hope this helps some.
