ok, heres my problem, i drilled a hole through the firewall about 3 inches below the ecu harness in my 95 tsi, unknown to me the harness in the engine compartment was looped around and zip stripped together. i tore 4 wires apart but the problem is that theres two sets of exact color wires, ive got 2 black with silver dots and 2 red with silver dots, both sets are EXACTLY the same.

i tried hooking up the wires every which way and the car refuses to fire, there is also a hose missing from the top of the air cylinder that goes under the battery tray, the one closest to the front of the car, i looked all over and dont see anything that goes there. IS ANYTHING SOPPOSED TO GO THERE?

so the way it looks i probably fried my ecu but my problem is how do i find which wires go where, i dont wanna drop a couple hundred on a new ecu and fry that one too. any help will be appreciated, thanks

Get yourself a multimeter (measures voltage, resistance etc.) from Radio Shack or somewhere, and measure the resistance between the cut wires and the various pins on the ECU to see which inputs have been cut.

Then when you know what the inputs are, measure the resistance going the other way (the other end of the cut wire, and whichever sensor/input it could be). You can use a jumper wire (as long as necessary) to go to the sensor/input, so that you can hook up the meter.

Here's a pinout of the ECU. http://www.prostreetonline.com/pso/pages/techtips/showarticle.asp?articleid=13

It'll be a pain, but you can do it. Once you know the wires are connected properly you can go on from there. The ECU may be fried from connecting the wires incorrectly before, or you might have blown a fuse somewhere.

Get yourself a Chiltons, or Haynes manual, or even better a Mitsubishi service manual, if you can. Those will help out with the locations of the sensors, and inputs. Post again if you additional help. Good luck.

thanks for the input, that pin daigram is exactly what i needed, i will check for continuity tomorrow afternoon. thanks again..... oh, any idea on that hose?

ok, i checked today and i got hte same strong continuity reading from both blacks to the #82 pin, but the diagram shows nothing being there, and the same for the red, both red were strong to the #3 pin which is the fuel pressure selenoid, that one makes sense because i dont think the motor is gettin fuel. also, the noise i thought the eprom was making was that little brass colored box right behind the eprom, its like 3x3x2" dont know what it is but thats what was clicking. is there a better or more accurate way of testing these wires? also, can the eprom be tested off the car? i am truely lost on this one and i miss drivin my baby. the sad thing is i cant even tow it to a dealer, i grafted a bomex body kit on her so it cant be raised that much.

today i went through those 4 wires, both sets an into eachother, the red wires were for the egr solenoid and fuel pressure solenoid, and one other wire that was exposed but not apart was the evap purge solenoid. i dont know where to go from here, i would assume any of those sensors could be bad from being ground out by the ground wires but then again, if i leave the keys in the ignition or the lights on the reminder sounds dont go off. but the car will turn over just like normal but wont fire. someone help please

I'm assuming the wires are now connected correctly. Next thing is to check for a blown fuse. The MFI fuse would be a good place to start, on my car it's in the fuse box under the hood, and it's labeled "ENGINE" on the fuse box cover. It could be a lot of things. If you get to the point of having spark and fuel, and it still won't start, it could be the ECU.

i checked all the fuses right after i got the wiring put back together, all were good.

I never knew until today that the car would still turn over with no ecu in it, that was different, but there was no fuel pumping.

Another thing i noticed yesterday was that little box on the side of the tranny wall right behind the ecu is what was making the clicking noise, this is what sends a signal to the fuel pump i'm guessing as the sounds i heard with the pump access cover off. that solenoid or whatever it is would be a guess but i dont understand why my reminder sounds and dome light dont come on any more.

If the problem is the ecu will another mits# ecu get it to start, i assume it would run like ass but would it even start? i have one laying around from my 98 because i got a new one that was socketed but i dont know if i should plug it in.

im lost and i miss my baby:((
