Ok i just got this car as is. Its a 95 esi manual. Its shooting codes.
P1487
P1698
P1899
P0500 vss issue

I know that the ecu is from an auto.. Not sure of the year? The speedo doesnt work. No visual issues with wires or stuff. Im assuming its the vss on this.

I have been reading around in here but i havent found the answer to some of my questions.

1 the vss is that the sensor or the wrong ecu in the car?
2 reading about having it flashed.. Can it be flashed to not shoot these codes?
3 would it be worth just finding a manual one instead?
4 its running fine but its rich..is that due to the wrong ecu?
5 would the ecu be causing the vss to not be seen and stopping the speedo from working?

Thanks for helping with this. Right now im just trying to make this one right then my plan is to get a tsi and doing a build on it. Nothing fansy with this one. Just a clean tune for gas mileage. :)

Manual an autos ecu are the same, so you are good on that, Check you ecu, is it black?, if it's black then it is a flashable ecu, but if isn't black, then you are ok.
No, the ecu has nothing to do with your speedometer, the vss sends signal to the ecu and to the spedometer, if your speedometer is not working, or your spedometer, your vss, or a wire could be bad.

He's got a 420A powered car, not 4g63.

So if you know its faulse why not help me with what u know?

One other issue as well. When driving and coming to a stop i will press the clutch in and it will sometimes die. It will not do it all the time but it dies. I think this has to do with the car running rich but not sure if any of this is related at all. Could the ecu be doing that because of the vss. I read aboutthe mt and at cars running diff injectors but if im not mistaken that was on the 1gs i cant really find much about the 2gs. Not new to these but trying to figure out the frankenstine creation i have is kinda hard. And its the tech stuff im not sure about.

Any help would be great. (paperworks states that its a diff ecu from a AT thats why i know this info)

I don't know anything about NT, But curious, What engine do you have?, 420A or 4g64, I will assume is a 420 with turbo.
Concerning about stall when clutch pressed in, are you venting your bov, On ower engines (4g63), venting the BOV will cause your same issue.

I have read about 1gs having different ECU (automatic and manual), but not 2g's as far as I know.

Don't look like there is alot of info on your problem here. I sugest if you have somebody local that has a 5 speed ecu. Just swap with them and see if thats the problem.
There is so many of the NA cars in junk yard or just being parted out. Finding a 5 speed ecu should not be a problem.

Good luck!

Sure, why not. You gotta pay shipping though. And i have to double check. Ill send you a pm tomorrow or thursday. Its at my dads shop, not at my house. I dont need your old one either, these things are worthless, otherwise id have already sold it on craigslist LOL. Btw, i ran a 98 auto ecu in place of a manual ecu: no difference iirc.

Well even if that is the case. It shoots a code because of the auto trans. Will gladly pay shipping! Pm me you paypal and cost of shipping. I will pm u my address. Thanks!
