Went to get my emissions done here in Ga 96 TSI FWD. Once the guy connected the ECU to the computer ,5 of the 8 test read "Not Completed".
Misfire- completed
Fuel system-completed
Comprehensive component -completed
Catalyst, Evaporative system, Oxygen sensor, Oxygen sensor heater, and EGR system- NOT Completed.
Tha batery was not conected while the Tranny was instaled about 200 miles ago. Still is not getting the test completed.
Is the ECu in the 2g obdII and the 1g obd1?

I'm not sure but i think the guy who sold me the car told me that the ECU was replaced with a 1g ecu.

wow that sucks. Thank god I dont live where I need to smog my DSM. I'd never get to drive it.

I really dont have an answer to fix the problems, but I do have on to how I used to get by smogging on my GM. It was a 20 dollar bill, all wrapped up in the testers hand, and he'd just sign off saying the car smogged good.

I might have to do that soon!LOL

Im not sure how a 1g ECU could be installed in the car.
But the best thing to do would be to pull it out and check the number codes on it to see what year the ECU is that you actually have.

Some 2g's come with a faulty ecu. The only way for you to reset the ecu is take it to the dealership, pay x amount of money, once they've done their part, you take the car back to smog place to get it smogged. The catch is you cant turn off your car, because if you do, the ecu automatically goes faulty again. Another option you can do is buy a 99 ecu. 99 ecu's doesnt seem to have this problem. Or you can go dsmlink.

Sounds like a plan, Now Does the 93-94 ECU works on the 2g car suince they are the same engine?

Not directly. While one could patch together a harness to mate the older 1G OBD 1 ECU to the 2G, your cooling fans wouldn't work and your knock sensor would malfunction. And, like I pointed out before, the testing guy would fail you because he couldn't connect to the computer.

If you got a 2G DSMLink you could work around all of this.

when i bought the car, the engine light came on. They told me the code was for the oxygen sensor, the first one, the one after the exhaust. I went to the auto part and the one that match the one i had was the 93-94 awd tsi sensor, the one they gave me the first time didn't work. The plug at the end of the cable was not a match, but the 93-94 was a perfect match. What the hell is going on?

just finished the ECU Swapt. I used a 1999 GST. Now The code reader only have 4 incompleted tests. Before it has 5. (Catalyst, Evaporative system, Oxygen sensor, Oxygen sensor heater, and EGR system- NOT Completed). with the new ECU,the O2 Sensor Heater is completed.

Do I need to do something to make the others get completed as well?
