ecu bug out

Ok i have a 90awd and my ecu went out. it was a e prom. I put a 92 ecu in it and it ran fine. My tach works fine and the car runs great. ive been reading that people have problem with there tach doesnt work when they do this. whats up with my car. Im still runing stock sensors and i have no problems. I can also run my car with my maf unpluged and it runs good until 6500 rpm then it cuts out. Is my car posessed or what im confused. Its a 89 build year so i dont know whats up with it.

What are your old and new ecu #'s? It's possible that either your car or the donor car has been modded to run with the alternate ecu. I wouldn't try running with out the mas hooked up anymore...it could be very detrimental.

ok about the maf being unpluged was a mistake. i was messing with my intercooler piping and i forgot to plug it back up. and about your reply my car hasnt been changed and the ecu came out of a stock 91 eclipse gst, but now im having a problem. My ecu reset and my timing went so i reset it. I drove it to the store and when i started it did it again. I limped it home and reset it.now every time i shut the car off its reseting.Im grounding it out and doing every thing right. Could this be the ecu or what. ive been runing the ecu for over a month and i havnt had any problems until now.

Are you sure the car hasn't been modded before you got it? Have you had this thing since 1990? I'll ask again... what are the ecu #'s? Does your tach start acting funny after a few minutes? I only ask these things because my 90 (that was also built in 89) wouldn't even fire with a 91 ecu.

As i said the car has not been moded.It was owned by one guy before me and he drove it till he snaped the timing belt. He towed it to his house and it sat in hes garage for 4 years. Then i got it and replaced the engine in 2004. The ecu in my cars number is on cover pate MD145903/E2T34478A on the side is 5903. The other one i have is MD166260/E2T36574M the side is 6260 this also works fine in my car. The only thing ive noticed with them is that the car idles a little rough when you start it but it goes away after a few seconds. about the original eprom ecu numbers i dont have them its at a frends house in PA. but im in CA. stationed at Fort Irwin and I cant get a hold of him. Was your car a eprom car? Is there a difference. Im not shure.

arent the 90's different from some of the other later 1gs? Pull the ECU and check for leaky caps. Dont assume its good if its been in the car over a month. Ive heard of stranger things.
