Has anyone bought a manifold from this guy. How was the craftsmanship? How does it compare to others. The other manifold I have been looking at that is close to my price range is the Dejon. Anyone with experience with either of these manifolds or a very good experience with another that is right in the 4-500 dollar range, I would greatly appreciate your comments.:dsm:

Did I just not prove that they were NOT perfect rectangles, they are rounded like on the head.

Can you take a better picture by chance? One that shows where the inside of the runner meets that flange. That flange seems to be shaped close to what the heads ports are, but still after looking at that first picture, the actual runners seem much more rectangle. So I'm wondering if they actually have a good flange, that has those intake ports cut very well, but the runners don't flow perfectly into the same shape as that flange. Kinda like taking a large rectangle, and welding it to an oval hole. The hole may be just right, but it's gonig to be protruding into the air stream and blocking some of the air coming through the runner. Does that make sense? Anywho, I have never seen this product in person, so I'm trying not to bash it real bad or anything, I'm just trying to figure this out for myself, because in that first picture, the runners seem very rectangle, not the same shape as the holes in the flange. I'm just asking to see a better picture if possible.
 
Please observe the following:

When dealing with pressurized air, a sharp turn does not create a noticeable restriction.

Realistically, you'll have the same amount of pressure behind each valve. This one might hurt off-boost response, but on-boost probably won't make a massive difference.

Like Ron said, don't bash it till you've tried it.
 
Your comment about pressurized air was not true. The higher the airs pressure the more dense and viscous it will become, thus increasing the effects of radical direction change and velocity gradients. The reason why a rectangle welded to an oval hole is worse than a rectangle whos shape changes to an oval gradually is because of that turbulence which results when moving air moves across a sharp change like that. These differences seem small now, but keep in mind that a motor turning at 7000rpm is moving a lot of air down that runner, and every little bit of friction turns into heat, and reduced static pressure at the head. Hope this helps.

I understand why a rectangle welded to an oval hole would be bad, however there's photographic evidence at the top of the thread that it's not like that.

I'm not saying there would be no difference, but with a forced induction scenario, manifold design is not quite as important as it is in n/a.
 
Well, pretty much no one on our local (Minnesota/Midwest) forum knew who made these products, which was strange because they are being sold out of Minnesota. BUT, it seems some people figured it out, and the guy came forward. Said they tested it and made a 37whp gain on a 50trimed car. Still I just don't lik that manifold.

BUT...

Then he went on to tell us they just finished their new design, which now I'd say looks much much better. No rectangles to oval holes. You can see the runners change shape right at the flange, when the old ones didn't. I see some velocity stacks. This one I think looks similar to the Magnus one now. Not exact, looks like the stacks inside are differnt, looks like it doesn' slope quite as much, but still pretty similar lookingHe said they are a little heavier then others out there, but look at that price. Still not quite as nice looking as the others, but maybe worth a try for the price. Any thoughts?

the new one looks a lot better and he does say LIFETIME WARRANTY... if no one tries it, i'll try it for you guys...
 
Can you get a pic of the stacks on the inside? The new version looks much nicer. Did he say when he would have them ready for sale? The old version is questionable, but the new version at that price, and lifetime warranty looks great. :thumb:

the new design looks way better. i would get one if i wasnt just running a 16g
looks like an actual decent quality copy of magnus instead of some random generic intake manifold that would only help top end and destroy the low end.
 
It's a complete Magnus rip off (extremely poorly done). How can you guys support someone who copies Magnus, a company that has done so much for the community. What a slap in the face.

How can you advocate boycotting a business just because their part shares similarities with another company's product?

It's not as if we're talking about some overseas firm that is producing inferior product at cut-throat prices here. Bulldog appears to be a US based company with workers who are passionate about their products and services, committed to improvement, and who stand by their workmanship.

Competition in a free-market system is necessary and inevitable. Good luck suppressing the entire basis of capitalism, let me know how all that works out for you.
 
looks decent,
but if that isn't the thinnest flange i've ever seen
it would do them well to use a thicker flange where the manni meets the head.
just looks like it could warp easily. and if it did, wouldn't have much thickness left to mill.

other than that it looks decent
 
Bulldog just seems like an up and coming company, sure magnus may have done alot for the DSM community but why not give other companys a chance too? Magnus will ALWAYS have customers buying thier parts. Bulldog is trying to make a name for them selves and it seems that offer products that accurately reflect thier price range, that seems like a huge help to most DSM'rs. If you think it looks poor, don't buy it, but if you do buy it, or have bought it, give us a review, eh?

Complete? Although similar, there are some obvious differences. If I wanted to design a part, I would base it on something that works. If Magnus had developed a design that was significantly different from the design and function of others, it would be protected by a patent and copying it would be criminal.

It is obvious that Bulldog did not put a lot of resources into the appearance ot the piece. It looks a little rough. If they were trying to "rip off" Magnus, don't you think they would try to make it all shiney?
 
a buddy bought one recently and when he got it on the first day the coating were already rubbing off by holding it. there was a metal piece inside the intake manifold and we had to get it out, couldn't risk it going into the engine. the flange are a little too thin and the weld isn't as good as others like JM's manifold. I told him you get what you pay for.
 
Maybe the problem is people can't justify buying something that is $200+, which they could make themselves. By the visuals given, many members here have the skill to make an exact replica of the bulldog manifold using about $30-40 in materials, and a couple of hours or work. Hell, I could crank out maybe 1-2 of those puppies a day.

Ok lets examine it for a second you show what I mean.
1. The upper part was folded on a sheet metal folder and was probably cut out from a pattern.
2. The inside is a velocity stack type design. They just used a flaring tool to get flare on the pipe.
3. The bottom, back and front are all flat so they just had to be cut out.
4. The flanges came from somewhere. The runners are just flattened out to fit the flange.
5. From the pics the welds look achievable by us mortals. (LOL, non-robotic welds.)

I'm not trying to flame the product, I'm just saying it is producible for a much cheaper price, but isn't everything on this planet like that. :D

Well if you can crank out 1-2 of them a day why dont you just do that and make a couple couple? Would yours be crap like yall say bulldogs is? If you havnt actually USED the product people dont bash it, I understand WMD wasn't bashing it. Any company starts small, even the big ones now had crap products at the start. So try a product before saying crap about it just cause it looks like crap.

Sadly going to a university takes up most of my time, but I was saying I have the skills and the know-how to exactly replicate the bulldog manifold. To make a refined product such as the Magnus, it would take many years of practice and some heavy-duty machinery.

The product does have its problems you must admit. The flanges are way to thin and the velocity stack runners are not even level inside the manifold, their all crooked. And the edges of the flares are not even folded over to creat a smooter surface. Just a little more work could be done to make it better.
