Well guys im in some what of a bind. I need to be able to control my ignition in my car. I already have the E-manage blue and the ignition does not work on our wasted spark cars. So my question is should I keep my e-manage (I also have the E-01) and buy a MSD or Crane ignition box? - which model? Or should I just bite the bullet and get rid of the e-manage and get a MSnS, bc they would run about the same in price?

PS, just found out the MS is working on a board just for the 420a!!!!! For once something just for our cars!!!! Anybody know when this would be released? Still like to hear from you guys about my original question tho

Where did you hear that? Are you talking about RSAutosport's most recent promotion? All that is is a V3.0 board with MSI chip, configured for MSnS-E and the 420A crank signal. It's not really specifically for the 420A.

I hope Rand jumps in this thread... he seems to be the only one around here with actual experience of the E-Manage. From what I gather, it's more headaches than anything else, and even he's moving toward MSnS-E.

Yeah I saw the board on Rsautosport, but even if it only changed to accept our crank signal and wastespark without adding a the exstra part for the spark its kinda nice for once to have people make stuff for our cars instead of adapting something else to our cars. Yeah Rand and I have talked about the e-manage before and I know he is running the msd box, did not know he was thinking about going with the Megasquirt! Well that is a starting to point for me in the right direction if he is giving up on the e-manage there is no hope for me unless somebody else as had better luck?

Oops... maybe I wasn't supposed to tell you he was thinking of MSnS. ;)

And the MSnS-E hardware is more or less identical to every other MSnS-E box out there, it's just a few jumpers and a cap or two, plus the firmware settings that differentiate it. I wouldn't get to excited just because RSAutosport is touting the fact that they make "420A Specific MSnSs." While I'm sure they set everything up correctly for a 420A, it's just a marketing ploy.

so its pretty much the MS system preassembled? what did you mean by "V3.0 board with MSI chip, configured for MSnS-E and the 420A crank signal."? Is there an additional box you would need?

No you do not need any additional tach adapters or such to input the crank signal into the MS. The 420a MS is just a run of the mill MSNS with mods for our crank signal and the mods to output a spark signal off the board.

Put it down terry.

rand didn't jump in, but I ran the emanage for about a year. rand is still running it. Let's just say it's horrible and a waste of money. I rebuilt my motor as a result of it and probably my dumn ass too. I came to figure out that the emanage has a slight delay on it's adjsutments. So, when you hit boost, it would go lean for jsut enough time, then it woulddump in the fuel and you would have over compensation. Not to mention since it's only a piggy back, it's modifying your fuel, but your ecu is still seeing whats going on and tryin got modify it back. In tern you have the two fighting each other.

I'm running MSnS now. Wouldn't go to anything else.

sorry guys I haven't been around a while to actually respond to everything (stupid midterms)....well to answer the OP's question, stick with the MS.

My main head ace when it came to running the emange was injector selection, I wanted to run 550cc nothing less, and the emange just can't keep up with the idle control and so I had to run a static idle of 30psi (20psi at idle)....interms of fuel control you can only do so much with the airflow adjustment map, and then you have to get into the relm of injector pulse settings, which I just never had the patience for with all the other issues I was dealing with, so I was just going to wait to buy an MS system myself.

I too thought an ingnition box would solve alot of problems, but it just brought more issues to deal with, For one thing the MSD box wasn't in real time, 2nd you have to control timing ontop of the stock ecu's timing control, something I'm sure if I had an logger would have helped with.

Essentially I'm not saying it can't be done, and I'm an emange and igntion box would work okay, but for the cost and time it takes you might as well go for MS with more support and more things it can handle should you choose to do so.

Besides all I've heard about 6months after I bought the emange is how horrible it is on cars that its made for....greddy makes some nice products, the emange blue just isn't one of them.

not to mention you got to see a real ms system work yesterday and can vouch for how nice it makes the car run.
