Dynamat Layering ?

This is a question for people who have installed dynamat or some other kind of sound deadening mat. I have "Rattletrap Extreme," it's a tar based material that's just less than 1/8 inch thick. Any how, I am coating the entire cabin area with this stuff, and was wondering how well it works. I am looking basically sick of hearing my exhaust drone on, and am looking for a quiet ride. I would rather solve the problem now then have to tear everything out again. I am interested only in elimanating (as much as feasible) road noise, and am not overly concerned with speaker / sound quality (although that's a bonus too.

I am wondering if I should do 2 layers in order to achieve my goals. If so, are there any certain areas that people have found to still produce noise after intsalling the mat? I may just do more layers in those areas.

The stuff works VERY well. My experience is w/ genuine dynamat. The regular stuff is really heavy. I'd stick with one layer for that reason alone. One layer + the factory sound deadening should impress you. If you can afford the dynamat "Xtreme" it's much thinner and lighter and works just as well.

Dynamat Extreme is 10 times better than original Dynamat. It lays down and contours to the shape of the surface so much better. I would invest in it.

I have put Dynamat Xtreme in my DSM but for sound quality purpouse. I have damped the two doors and the entire trunk with it. It doesn't really help for the exhaust noise. Maybe if you put a layer of dynamat on the floor and the rear quarter it will be a quieter. You will definately like it.

Otherwise speaking of dynamat it does really great work. The sound of the speakers in the doors is so much improved. I really like and recommend it

As far as purchasing goes, I already have 180 sq ft of "Rattletrap Extreme." Its made by Fatmat, and is comprable to the Dynamat extreme. I easily have enough to do 2 layers, and I'm thinking I might just because the stuff is so thin. I was looking for some opinions on if that was neccessary or not, because I'd hate to add more weight than I have to. I'd like a luxurious, quiet ride (like a cadillac). I know this may be wishful thinking in a dsm, but wouldn't that be awesome?

Also I am frustrated with the wind noise above me (I have a sunroof). I have already tried filling all the beams (ceiling and floor) with Great Stuff. That was a fun little project, and it did quiet the car down some, but the beams really weren't the source of the noise. I have thought about getting a wind deflector for the sunroof, but in my opinion they are hideous. I might end up putting some rattletrap mat on the black part of the sunroof, but I don't know if that would help much either...anyone tried putting mat on the ceiling?
