Dumbest things you've heard a DSMer say? :)

Thanks Brian...my head was about to spin a full 360.

We're not trying to be hard on the members. The Hangout is a little less strict than the tech section, but I think that if people get to post however they want in one section that sooner or later it'll start bleeding over into other sections.

Now, say you go try and search for something about a brake upgrade. Well, there's a great thread with the exact info you need, but it has shorthand, misspellings, text talk, etc. I don't know about you, but I would never find that thread as I'd be using real words to search.

Plus, reading an actual sentence is so much more easy and natural, considering that's what I was brought up to understand and comprehend.

And enough with the off-topic posts...

My interesting story.

I was out working on my brother's car when he saw a 2g drive by. He couldn't tell if it was turbo as it had an aftermarket exhaust and turbo spoiler. Well, he went around the block and drove by again. So I walk out and wave and he stops. First words out of his mouth:

"So, do you have one or two turbos on that thing?" (pointing to mine)

Low and behold, his car was an N/A...figures.

Personally I like quad turbos ;)

Give him a break Hes in waterloo Iowa. Also known as the ghetto of Iowa.

I have a eclipse Spyder with a 2.4 engine. Can I take a Audi Quattro head and put it on my 2.4? It's a 2.5 engine. :banghead: I also want to use its turbo and all its internals. :ohdamn: So, I can have a 2.4 Hybrid.

Yay, I know. This is what I have to deal with every night getting text message from him about his spyder. Don't get me wrong. I tried actually educating him but he still doesn't get it. I also gave the links to every faq site. So he could learn about DSM but, still doesn't get it. But, one day he'll learn... I hope.

This guy: Can you help me install my header
Me: well sure I could help
This guy: Here it is
Me: Alright lets do it pull up to the drive way open the hood
This guy: "opens hood"
Me: Oh you already have a header was you wanting to change it out?
This guy: No it goes on the back side
Me: what?
This guy: yea it goes back there
Me: That is the intake manifold man
This guy: yea that is where it goes
Me: You can't install that it don't go there
This guy: Well I want to do it anyway
Me: yea? well I can't help you because it don't go back there and you have one already
This guy: You just don't want me to smoke your mazda that is why you don't help me
Me: Your an idiot go pay a shop see what they tell you
This guy: I just have some one else install it
Me: Good luck with that.

I get some good ones from time to time.

My old roomie had some friends down from WI and one of them was driving a 3g Eclipse. He asked me about my Talon and when I told him I had AWD and turbo, he replied "yeah, mine has that too." I told him I didn't think they made those after 99.

One of my neighbors asked me what all mods I had on my car so I started listing them off. He didn't care about internals or turbos so he just interrupted me and blurted "do you have a cold air intake?" He seemed a little disappointed when I said no and then tried to explain that turbo cars don't have CAI's in the same way that N/A cars do. He asked to see the engine, so I popped the hood and the first thing he said was "you do too have a cold air intake!" while pointing at my intake pipe. I run a Dejon intake pipe with a AEM filter, no more stock MAF so I guess it might look like one. I then had to argue with him that it wasn't and tried to explain the whole thing again. This is the same neighbor who was telling me all about the stuff he was doing to his car, rotating brake pads and what not. I let him know I was pretty sure you don't rotate those, but he was adamant. LOL

Not coming from a DSMer, (I hope not), but I just got this on another forum.

"Isn't the 4G63 engine the Lancers engine? How the heck did you get that?"

"Does your car have VTEC in it?" LOL

I also had one where a guy wanting to race, so I was looking at his "Ebay" Integra. I saw his big ass Turbo (and his "35psi"), so I asked about his internals. He replys with stock. I called bs on that, so he changed it to built head and 20psi. So I asked who did his tuning and he replied with some guy LOL. So my final question to him: "so is it a street tune or dyno tune?" He looked at me all retarded bebore saying "oh uhh, dyno tune for sure." I just walked away.

My Buddy: "How much horsepower do you think removing my rear seats and A/C will add?"

Me: "Hahahahahahahaha, add a few racing stripes, I heard those add some horsepower too."

I then explained to him that Weight reduction mods do not add horsepower, they just remove weight. :tease: Ha, what an idiot.

Certainly no more power than switching to a belt for a non-AC equipped car. Generally the AC does not take much power because the AC clutch is disengaged so you are more or less only rotating the AC pulley which isn't particularly heavy.

For comparison both harmonic balancers removed is said to approximate a 12hp gain, there is a whole lot more rotating mass in them than in the AC pulley and they move at the speed of the crank, not the slower speed of the AC compressor puller (IIRC and measured as RPM). Generally the gain is more from the significant weight savings.

Oh I see, the only time the ac really uses the power from the crank is when it is engaged. How much does the AC weigh? 50lbs. I'm thinking of putting my car back together with the AC deleted, as well as the PS.

hey, do me a favor and leave lofty our of this ROFL j/k lofty :tease:

If the diff was broken the car wouldnt drive right period. Either way thats not a valid excuse to run 2 different rated tires I could see running a different rated tire because you werent paying attention when buying it or they ran out of stock and you needed it because it needs to be fixed ASAP. And to try and BS me on how one tire spins faster then the other just blew my mind. If you are accelerating in a straight line all tires will be spinning the same speed UNLESS you are RWD and loose traction and in that case the rear tires would spin faster then the fronts. OR when turning a corner the inside tire will spin faster because it has less distance to travel then the outside tire. This is were a differental comes in to play which allows for the inside wheel to rotate faster then the outside. If you ever watch a RWD car with a spool or a dsm with a welded diff corner you will noticed the outside tire hops because there's no differental so the outside wheel tries to keep up with the inside wheel causing the hop.

When I broke my diff the car actually did feel normal until I leaked enough fluid through the hole in my transmission so that it stopped shifting (automatic). It was very weird when pulled apart with teeth sheered off and a broken diff housing. Not sure how I got lucky enough for it to get me home but I didn't even realize it was broken at first and it still ran decently on the track.

Leave it all in there if you think you might ever want to sell your car. It only uses HP when you turn it "on". People take it out so they can fit huge intercoolers that they don't really need. The 50 lbs., it ain't worth it. It's a safety feature; it clears the windshield. Plus, it's more like 30 lbs.:sneaky:
