Being nice to someone who doesn't know what they are talking about is a good thing and I will never look down on someone who just wants to learn and asks questions that are well thought out but I swear to god every time I hear someone say they have a JDM twin turbo talon which runs 10s all day even though the talon never came in awd I immediately lose all respect for them because they are being an ass and trying to talk about things which they know nothing about. There are a thousand excuses for ignorance, but being a pretentious asshole can only be pulled off with any grace by very few people.

That's what I was trying to say, only shorter. Couldn't word it right for some reason, but that's the basic idea. I'll be an ass if you deserve it, but if their just trying to talk and bs around, I'll ask questions and give hints and if I get the feeling they don't care/know it all, I'll just give up.

Kinda like info regarding Holset turbos. There's so many threads I just gave up on going through all 50 pages each of them have, and ended up sticking with a 14b. Though I need a new turbo, so I'm thinking Holset HX35, but I'm not about to ask about it either.

And oh!! DB! I'm an idiot. That is a PERFECT example of what I mean.


And I was certain if anyone was to agree, it'd be a wiseman. I just feel that we as DSM'ers always have been a cool car culture to be around even if you don't have a DSM, and that's what makes us so different. Part of why I love having one.

Probably a repeat from similar posts on a few of the previous 22 pages of this thread, but I have a friend who bought a 2g TSi and bought a "big turbo" though he doesn't know which one it is and he's going to run 30 psi apparently. Upon asking him which supporting mods he's going to run, specifically fuel supply and control upgrades, he replied " Oh, I'm leaving the fuel system completely stock. I don't want to spend any money on useless s#@*. I'm just doing enough to make it fast. I am going to buy a sweet blow off valve though and some gauges." I said, "what type of wideband A/F gauge are you getting?" He said, "what's that?". Yeah, he blew that car up I guess. That's what he says. I haven't seen it since he broke it. He just recently purchased an STI with a rod knock. He wants me to rebuild the motor with forged internals, install another one of those "big turbos", and tune the car for some ungodly boost level. I'm still arguing with him about what kind of parts he will need to buy. Apparently if we pull the motor and find scored cylinders or crankshaft journals a bore and a new crankshaft aren't necessary. I should find out what brand makes the "big turbos".

The 14b is agreat turbo though. One of the BEST stock turbos from 84-94. There's a way to get a lot out of that too. PM me.

This wasn't a DSMer, but still funny nonetheless. So I got to school this morning and pull in the parking lot. I got out of my car and this kid comes running over to me. (note that this kid drives a beat to shit cavalier that he drives like its a race car. I also recently installed a 3 inch turbo back and i have a slight lifter tick that started about a month before i installed the exhaust.) So he starts telling me about how my engine is ticking because i have a 3 inch exhaust with no back pressure. I tried explaining to him that my exhaust has nothing whatsoever to do with my lifters ticking. Then he said "whatever dude, you don't got any back pressure with that exhaust. You're gonna fry your piston rings and blow your engine." I simply said ok and walked away.

Then later on in the day, a different kid comes up to me and told me that he just bought an WRX. So I asked him whether it was the 2.0 or the 2.5 liter engine. He said it has a 550 cubic inch V8 that his dad used to use for drag racing. I said "oh really? i didn't know there was such a thing, or that you could put one in a subaru for that matter." He's like " yea man, i'd totally smoke you in a race." Me " sure."

So, had a guy come up to the local meeting place for us car people...anyways, he was driving a Sypder GS-T and was telling everyone how he was making 300-320 whp and was running a 18G turbo. So I walk over to check out his motor since the hood was open...everything is stock under the hood except a knock off BOV...also noted that the turbo was a Stock T-25...I then walk around his car and notice the stock exhaust...so I ask him a few questions about it and he tells me that it doesn't have an intercooler on it at all...so I look into the bumeper and see the stock Side Mount...I then proceed to blow the kid up on the spot and point out that he has been lying! He then said he would run me for "pinks" but he needed to get his Nissan 350Z with a RB25 Twin Turbo Swap from a GT-R...(for anyone unfamiliar with Skylines, GT-R's come with a RB26, the RB25 came in the GTS25T and were only single turbo)

There's this older guy I work with who acts like he's done everything and knows everything.

We were talking one day and he asked me what kind of car I had, I told him a 1996 GTP and a 1991 Laser. He says "Oh a Laser, I almost bought one of those new back in 1988."

I asked him if he was talking about the Chrysler Laser (Daytona clone, now looking it up, they discontinued them in 1986 anyways), because they didn't start DSM until the 1990 model year. He was like "Nope, it was a Plymouth."

I asked him why he didn't buy it.
"The back wheels are bigger than the front. I didn't like that."

Spark plugs aren't always a good indicator although obviously anyone with half a brain can figure out the cases when they aren't but we are talking about the sort of person that says they have a v8 wrx.

If you need a good example take a look at a late 80s or early 90s 4cyl Ranger. I'm not sure what years or if there are any other Fords like it but they have 8 spark plugs. Fuel injectors aren't a good indicator either since some cars have an extra one for cold starts. The early 90s 4.9L Cadillacs are an example of that IIRC. On a lot of newer cars it is also nearly impossible to count plugs without taking parts off. My mothers C70 has so much trim on it that you can't find the turbo, spark plugs, throttle body, intake manifold, or timing components without removing trim parts. I'm aware that this isn't the case for many Subarus but I do admit to only having been under the hoods of a few. FWIW you can't count plugs on a stock DSM without removing a shield either though plug wires will obviously tell you the same thing and so will the coil pack outputs.

These cars are now affordable to the youth and so we have an epidemic of displayed immaturity. The evo is still out of most children's price bracket. But just wait, it will happen there. Once these cars are 10 more years old though, we'll see the immaturity fade to just the loyalists and those looking at old tech for a fun challenge. By then, the evo will be in every HS parking lot in the country.

I agree that the evo community will start to see more of this but I doubt it will be the same as what we see here. There were a lot fewer evos made and their overall performance design should keep them in demand longer than DSMs so that the crowd will in general be at least somewhat more affluent (ie: fewer high school students) than what we have here. The overall Lancer community is in the same boat though.

It happens with every marque that has an inkling of 'coolness' to it. If you go to IS300 boards, E36 boards, Civic boards... they ALL have immature owners. There's just no getting away from it. The best you can do is to have a site like this that enforces correct grammar, no street racing, and mature posts. I agree with Onster though, and to an extent it's already happening. I see fewer and fewer kids getting into 1G's - they all prefer the look of the 2G's instead.
