Been asked if my car is a kit car??? Does the bump make it faster??? Should have got an eclipse they're faster???

"Is the bump where the turbo sits?" "Is the bump for more aerodynamics?" "Can I just route my exhaust back into my intake?? Will that work?!" "How can i make my BOV louder?" "Can I turn the boost up to like 30psi?" "Can i use an intercooler with my N/T?" "Can i just swap a 4g63 in my n/t?" "How fast is your car?" "What the heck is a Inner-cooler?"

Lol. I love these.

Took my car out to make sure the clutch system was ok after bleeding.

At a stop light a Red 2ga N/T pulls up next to me.

Kid: Hey nice eclipse.
Me: Thanks man, yours looks good too. (body, rims, paint, completely stock, pretty good condition IMO)
Kid: Is yours turbo?
Me: Sure is.
Kid: I couldnt afford one and i wanted a sleeper anyway. Pull into that parking lot.

We pull into a small parking lot. We both get out, shake hands, blah blah blah. Seemed like a nice kid honestly, maybe 17/18 years old.

Me: So what makes this car a sleeper?
Kid: Well its completely stock...

(he pops his hood, and like he said, completely stock looking 420a, stock exhaust as well, only hard hard intake and filter and then i saw it)

Kid: ...with a Nitrous System;
Me: Yeah i see that. How big of a shot are you running? 50, 60?
Kid: 175 shot. Its crazy fast. I use it whenever i can. Every time i do, i get this sweet looking blue smoke out the back.
Me: Thats not good ya know.
Kid: No its fine, its the Nitrous burn off, scares people that see it, esp mustang owners.

I didnt want to give up on the kid so i tried to tell him that he should probably stop using his nitrous because his motor wasnt going to handle it much longer and so on and so forth...he denied everything and i think he even got mad and he left. Sure enough, blue smoke pouring out of his car as i think he used his NO2 when he left the parking lot, all i heard was tires spin and what sounded like rev limiter...

Poor kid, so naive :toobad:

Eh lots of people have been there at one time or another. Reminds me of someone on here that thinks carburetors have more potential than fuel injection systems. I suppose everyone has to start somewhere.

A guy I work with has a '98 RS,stock except for exhaust and cai...he constantly refers to DSM as 'DMS'...annoys the shit out of me after a whileROFL especially when we talk about 'DMS Link' haha. THe same guy calls Lancers Lasers, and always wants to 'buy one already done up so I can just jump in and drive, nothing to work on'...boy does he have a bit to learn about turbo cars! To each their own,but as much as I hate fixing something that breaks or f****-up on my car the thrill of new or new to me parts is like none other! I feel like I accomplished something when I start up and drive away and test it out!

So i went to watch some spectator drags this weekend, a friend of mine that met us there brought a kid he met at school that has a 98 or 99 gsx. We go over to take a look at my car, and he continuously makes dumber and dumber statements.
him-"Ya i blew the head on my car"
me-"Ah that sucks, when did that happen?"
him-"I turned my chip all the way up and raced this other kid"
me-"how much boost were you running?"
him-"like 28 psi"
me-"wow what head work had you had done?"
him-"none it was stock"
me-"....oh:banghead:"

While we were looking at my car
him "dont these ones come with like a 12 inch or twelve something turbo"
me-"no, i dont think one of my tracors would even spool a 12 inch turbo"
him-"oh i must be thinking of something else."
me-"ya probably

The statements got dumber and dumber as he tried to dig himself out and make an intelligent conversation.....

Some of you guys have to remember, there is an inherent trait amongst diehard DSM'ers that makes less knowledge car people look up to them. Its just like having a little brother, they just want you to respect them. They want to be just like you. Acting like a dick isn't going to do anything. There are a few exceptions when they are trying to be belligerent or challenge you on certain things/make fun of you, but I've read some of your responses and to be honest it makes me shake my head. Some of you should remember, you weren't born with the knowledge we have now, and not everyone has someone they can learn off of, so the next time someone comes up to you and starts a convo, think about that before you start the whole "Ugh, I'm going to be rude to this kid because he annoys me".

I'm not referring to anyone, so no one get offended, just saying. Some of you would do well to remember where you came from. We've ALL asked a stupid question about cars, and gotten laughed at about it, and it's no fun. Hell, when I was 14ish-15, my dad was a ASE Master Certified mechanic and I was always around cars when I was little, and so I asked "What the hell does DOHC mean?".

As said above though, the annoying little ric....er..."not-so-nice-people-that-half-ass-mod-their-cars" that come up to and try making fun of your car and giving you BS lines and "facts", I'm not talking about that. But, some of you just come off as arrogant dicks, and I know I wouldn't ever want to be the type of guy that someone saw and said "Yeah, his car is awesome, but he's a dick". DSM'ers by nature are supposed to be different than..certain other..car groups, because we're approachable and wont sit there and make fun of you/snub you because you don't know as much as we do.

Be a different breed guys. Catch some of these kids that don't know, and turn them into REAL DSM'ers. Nice/clean DSM's are becoming more and more rare for the simple fact that 99% of the people responsible, don't know what they are doing, so by informing them, you are actually preserving DSM's. Also, you never know when good Karma will come back and save your ass either. ~..^

Being nice to someone who doesn't know what they are talking about is a good thing and I will never look down on someone who just wants to learn and asks questions that are well thought out but I swear to god every time I hear someone say they have a JDM twin turbo talon which runs 10s all day even though the talon never came in awd I immediately lose all respect for them because they are being an ass and trying to talk about things which they know nothing about. There are a thousand excuses for ignorance, but being a pretentious asshole can only be pulled off with any grace by very few people.

...this was a myspace message i got from a kid, the convo started with him asking about the best place to buy bodykits...ehh.

him-hey man you still have your dsm, i need help with mine.

me-kinda sorta, but whatever, what do you need?

hahaha...wow. he unlocked the secret to running 52 psi on a DSM...yay

A friend of mine (Dale) brought someone whos not so much a friend of mine (Tony) over to my house to borrow a DVD or something. As we are all walking out of the house Tony stops at my car and asks if I would pop the hood for him. I was like whatever, so I did. So he stares at it for a while, then decides that he is going to pull his 40th anniversary T-bird over for comparison, tears the s*** out of my yard, smiles at me and says "Pretty sick huh?", I said "Yeah a**hole, its amazing." So after a while he pops his hood and wont shut up about how fast his car is. I take a look and realise that he bought a "turbo" emblem from walmart and stuck it on the heat sheild on his exhaust manifold. I laughed and said "WOW, a turbo, these are rare." He said: "Yea I used to have this old Plymouth Laser that was 4WD turbo v6." Me being a smart a** replied "Must have been one of those special editions, huh."... "I almost died when he started talking about how he liked being able to use the 4wd in mud and everything" I just thought he had an RS turbo AWD. Then he said "Yeah, it used to stick in 4wd though, I always couldnt get it back into 2WD for at least a few hours or so." He looked at my 96 RS and said "If your car and my old car are both Dea-Ess-Em's, how come your engine is side-to-side, and mine used to be 'front to butt'." I told him to get out of my yard.
