Dumbest things you've heard a DSMer say? :)

That wasn't aimed at you sorry. It was at the guy asking about GS-T's all being fails.

I was just saying that his question was a taken a little out of context since the GS-T is a production model and the car was built specifically as a concept model. But he was joking haha.

So yeah, FWD as an eclipse concept = FAIL
FWD as an eclipse production vehicle = Not as much FAIL but still a little haha

I had a contractor guy come in at work and saw my dsm pic on my desktop. One of those slightly dirty "I drive a 85 ford escort but owned a super car but got rid of it cause it was junk" guys.
him- hey I had one of those. Is thatun yours? (yeah "thatun" is spelled right)
me- Cool, was it stock?
him- no it was tricked out for power.
me- (head nod) I've done alot of mods to mine. What all did you do to yours?
him- V6 twin turbo.
me- I bet that was hard. What transplant? 3kgt swap?
Long story short he insisted he owned an eagle talon with a stock V6 that he turboed with "twin big turbos" but couldn't even tell me what turbos, how it was set up, any supporting mods, tuning solutions or anything that would convince me in believing him. I politely hinted at some mods I had done to mine such as fuel to keep up with a bigger turbo to kind of lead his nose a little. I even asked if just maybe he had owned a 3kgt but he insisted it was a stock V6 Eagle talon twin turbo.

Damm you even give a guy a place to back out and not look stupid and he won't even take it. It made me want to wreck his brain by grilling him on every detail kind of like when a dog pisses on the floor your rub their nose in it. Like saying yeah I know your a Dumb azz and you know your a dumb azz.

That's a good story LOL I've noticed a trend of anyone claiming to at one point having owned some supposed super-duper version of a dsm always claims its twin turbo. It's like the go-to ricer story

You sure that wasn't aimed at me? You quoted me LOL

Ok this is what my post should have looked like:

So what all gst's are fails? Lol WTF

The GS-T isn't a concept car made for performance...

Out of context much?

Meaning that his statement was out of context because the GS-T is a production model and the car we are all talking about was built specifically as a concept model. But he then clarified in a following post that he was just joking...

LOL

FWD= Fail Wheel Drive

AWD= Awesome Wheel Drive

RWD= Ridiculous Wheel Drive

Hater:screwy:

LOL Not hating, stating facts. I own a FWD and with it's measly 150hp I can spin the front tires half way through first. With similar all-season tires as the FWD, my AWD has knocked out 1.8 60ft times with nothing but a chirp. With my new Pirelli's and launch control set to 5500, this thing launches so hard I'm seriously afraid I'm going to rip the rear diff out of the car.

Lol nice . Thats good times. .4 second faster than my 6th time ever dragging LOL. On a t25 fwd. But. .4 in a 60ft is a good bit better though i guess LOL. Only 2.3 on the 14b but faster speed and endtime. I am still learning the launch. Hoping for better next season. New parts are coilovers, mounts, dsm link sometime, evo8 injectors, and evo 8 turbo kit. New tires and wheels. Vx1s 17x8 with 255s. Hopefully I don't break any axles. Need a new clutch too.

Add an LSD to that list and you should be able to really improve your times. What offset on the rims? I'm running 235's on 8 inch wheels with 40 offset. With 1.75" drop I only rub a tad on the rear fenders. But I would have to tuck the rear fenders quite a bit and install 2gb rear knuckles to run 255's.

For clutch, I would go South Bend in a heart beat. Like $20 more expensive than an ACT 2100 and stronger than a 2600.

Forgot to say if I make enough I want to get a wavetrac lsd. I'm not sure on the offset. Tell me how to measure and i'll check. I'm running 235/45 on my 3g rims which are 17/7 on i think a 1.5" drop. They are eibach lowering springs. I don't rub at all but have no clearance for wider.

But I used one of the tsw for a spare the other day and it's 8" with a 235/40. There was plenty clearance with it. Thinking 255/35 should tuck nicely.

I have a 2100 right now but last run at the drag it slipped something horrible. Never done it since but i figure if I get to making more hp it won't hold. It was used when i got it but in good shape. My adjustment is all the way out though.

Here's how offset works:

So the distance from the inside of the hub to the centerline is the offset. If the hub is behind the center line, offset is negative. If hub is in front of centerline, offset is positive. You will likely never have to deal with negative offset on a DSM, unless your into that Hellaflush junk. Finding centerline can be difficult, unless you know basic math :D. If you know the overall width of the wheel, you just subtract 1/2 that to find centerline. Which means we can take the distance from the hub to the outside edge, subtract 1/2 the rim width from the measurement, and the result will be the offset. Since offset is measured in MM and us Americans are stuck on Inches, some conversion is needed.

For example, we have an 8" wide rim. Lets say 8 inches equals 204mm (actually 203.2, but we like easy math). You measure your offset and find it to be 142mm. Half of 204 is 102, so 142-102=40. So the distance from your hub to the centerline is 40mm, therefore your offset is +40. It's literally that easy.

Rim fitment is a bit more complicated and has a lot to do with tire size as well. But without using math, I can tell you this: Due to the shape of the suspension knuckles, for absolute maximum fitment you will want a rim/tire combo that is as close to the same overall diameter as stock. Stock 16" wheels usually have a tire with an Aspect Ratio (sidewall height divided by tire width) of 55. So a 17" rim with an AR of 45, or an 18" with AR of 40, will typically be around the same overall diameter as a stock wheel/tire. The more rim you have, the less tire you get to maintain stock diameter.

Offset and rim width also play a huge part. The wider the rim, the closer you will be to both the fender and knuckles. A 17x8 with 245/45 and offset of 40 may not rub the knuckles, but it rubs the fender. Move the rim inward a little (by increasing offset), and you now rub the knuckle but not the fender. With my own wheels/tires, I have 235/40 on 18x8 +40 offset rims. I rub the fender but not the knuckle. However I also have a finger width space between the knuckle and tire treads. So if I went with a little higher offset and tucked the fenders, I cold run a 245. So I dare say that without 2gb rear knuckles and seriously tucking the fender, you won't be able to fit a 255 on the rear. It's not so much matter of offset, sidewall height, or ride height at this point since I'm already in the "prime" area for tire width. It's about how wide you can get before now rubbing actual mechanical parts like the knuckles.

Long story short, if the rims are anywhere between +35 and +45 and 8" wide, you should be able to fit a 235 or even 245 tire on them. But a 255 might take some work and some body modification. Just be sure to get the proper aspect ratio for your rim size to keep the stock diameter. Raising the car might actually help as well since you'll be less likely to rub the fenders during turns/bumps.

^^Or you could use the GUI calculators.

SMH...people on here ask how a BOV works and you think they can do maths?

I don't need calculators thank you very much. I am good at math, maybe better than you kris. I took 5 math majors in highschool and 4 science that included in depth math. All scored 93 and above overall, mostly higher, with trigonomertry overall at 97.8. Geometry was straight 100 & one 96. Gpa was 4.75. Honor roll in all but spanish class.

Engineers design cars but they couldn't work on them worth a damn, that doesn't make them stupid. If someone has never had to measure offset before that doesn't make them stupid.

I'm assuming your comment was aimed at me since I asked that question. Simple questions don't make a person stupid. An unlearned person asking a simple question so he/she can learn is pretty smart. Please, don't try to insult my intelligence again.

I'm so good at trig I get 3 stars on angry birds on the first try almost every time.

Warm up question for you MJ.

There is a line that passes through the origin that divides the region bounded by the parabola ƒ(x)=8x-7x² and the x-axis into two regions of equal area. What is the slope of that line?

So far everything Ive read on this last page is definitely material for this thread.... Shut up with the math shit already...

However WES, you said a SB clutch is stronger than a 2600 ACT.. I pretty much disagree. My SB clutch is rated at a 2200 and 450 torque.. Im making nothing even close to that and my shit will slip like crazy..

MJ laid down the gauntlet that he was better at math than Kris. I'm trying to see if he knows how to do pretty basic calc. In other words, it doesn't concern you sweetums, so ignore it.
