I just finished replacing the after market tail lights on my 97' eclipse spyder to the oem ones. I've placed the light bulbs back in the sockets, but cannot tell if I've put them in correctly. so my question is which hole (socket) does the blinker bulb go into? Is it the socket closest to the side of the car? the middle socket? or the socket closest to the center of the trunk near the trunk latch? thanks

Technically all three sockets are blinker, brake, and running lights. All three bulbs perform all three functions. The only real way to get the bulbs in the right sockets, is to make sure all the tabs on the bulb holders line up with the corresponding socket. Other than that, all three lights are identical.

On my 2g the blinker is in the center socket. I
Haven't moved bulbs around so I'm guessing that's how it comes from factory. If
My turn signal is out then the lights closest to the center piece take over the blinking function. The light closest to
The tires is just a parking light an has never blinked or brighten up if I press brake. So to answer your question the center socket on both tails is the blinker spot.

only 1 of the 3 blink when I turn on my left turn signal. The front amber side marker bulb is burnt out so it's causing the whole left side (front & rear) to blink rapidly. hopefully once I replace the front side marker bulb, all 3 rear bulbs in the rear left will all blink together.. I haven't even checked the right tail light because it got too dark outside.. I'll resume tomorrow & try to figure it out

Not all three blink, just the center one of each tail light. The one on the right takes over if the center bulb is burnt out other than that just the center blinks. Also use the right number bulb, I had a problem that made my blinkers flash fast as if a bulb was out, had different bulb numbers and changed it, now it works.

so daylight came and I could actually see what I was doing today.. I checked the fuses, relays & all was ok there. when I turned the lights on, both headlights worked, the passenger side (orange) oval sidemarker worked, the highbeams worked, the 97' GST foglights worked. All 6 (3 per side) tail lamps lit up. the right turn signals blinked at normal speed, 2 Of 3 bulbs light up on right side taillights, but the left turn signal blinked rapidly..basically everything worked with the exception of the front driver side (orange) sidemarker in the bumper, also only 1 of the 3 driver side tail light bulbs flickered when the left turn signal was engaged. that looked odd last night, so that's what prompted me to post this thread... I also had a hard time lining up the bulb socket tabs in the dark with no flashlight, working in my tiny SPYDER trunk. anyways... the burned out sidemarker previously had water buildup inside and caused the socket to become very rusted/corroated.. this might be the reason for the rapid left turn signal flashing??? NOPE! I cleaned the corrosion and rust with baking soda/warm water & contact cleaner, dried it with a blast of compressed air, replaced BOTH side marker bulbs just to be sure... lights are still blinking rapidly... so I decided to go buy 6 new bulbs for the rear even though the old bulbs all illuminated in "running mode". Sure enough that somewhat solved everything... now the speed of the signal flickering is normal on all sides, but still wasn't consistent... it would blink fast, I'd just touch it then it was fine so something was up with the wiring.. with further inspection I noticed calcium and lime with very little wire to metal contact. so I wedged a tiny loop shaped piece of
makeshift wiring in to the middle socket on the left side to create solid current between the black ground wire & metal housing on the bulb itself.. everything works perfect now! thanks for all the advise and input guys!! and to NOTE: 2 of 3 bulbs per taillight illuminate when signaling. the bulbs closest to the side of the car do not blink. and when putting bulb sockets back into the taillight assembly holes. it's color coded. the socket that goes closest to the side of the car is beige, the middle socket is grey, and the last socket closest to the center of the trunk latch is Black.
