You have to wire up the crank input yourself. It needs to be configured specifically for the 420a.

For the quad spark... This is the reason I chose the Audi 4 pin 'smart' coils. You wire them right to the ms3x spark output. See the link I posted above for the Audi coils it has the pin out. You will see what I mean.
 
So are the Audi coils or smart coils logic level 4 wire coils? Two grounds, a 12v, and tan to the ms3x.

I didn't see anything about Audi or smart coils yet just seen the 4 wire logic level. Still reading though and rereading, hard for me to comprehend it all the firs time being dyslexic.

Also with wiring the injectors, do you use pins 32, 33, 34, 35 on the ms3 board or do you use the ms3x board and just forgot using the ms3 wiring for injectors.
 
Is your Valve Cover a hardened plastic? I found one in the junk yard off a pt cruiser (slightly different than yours) but it's plastic.
 
Jayson, sorry for not responding. I didn't see you posted on here. It really all depends on what you want the system to do. I went with the MS3 at first because if I was spending the money I wanted the best. After building and playing around with it I decided I wanted to get the MS3X expansion card so I could easily run the car fully sequential with out a bird's nest of wires inside the car.

the other plus to the MS3X is all the extra ports. I plan on running my water/meth system off one of the spare injector outputs so I have more control over it rather than just turning a pump on and off. I mean you can go on and on with the options. I figured I was better off spending the money up front and do it right the first time.

quick update. Got this Treadstone manifold off ebay for a steal! All I have to say is this thing is beautiful! pictures do not do this piece justice!

Ok so here are the install pics. Still need to button some stuff up and take care of that power steering 'cooler'.


Here are the pipes and brackets. The lower pipe I actually just used the stock pipe. I just cut it as needed but it turned out pretty well. The upper pipe was going to be mandrel bent but the company sent me 1'' instead of 1.25''.

I got the new powersteering cooler mounted along with my oil cooler. The oil cooler won't get hooked up untill the car is turboed but I wanted the coolers there and it was easier/quicker to mount them together at the same time. The oil cooler has plugs in it to keep junk out. Here are the pics.



I also plan on rerouting the high pressure side at some point.... Probably the next time I have the engine out since that will be the easiest time to deal with that hose.

Had a little more time to work on the car before we go around visiting the families.

Redid the upper radiator pipe. Came out just like I originally planned.

Also redid the bottom one and started on the powersteering pressure hose.

Future plans before the end of winter are a quick release front bumper kit from a supporting vendor on here. Also getting a complete 2gnt wire harness to finally get the ugly ecu/fuse box out of the engine bay and really get it cleaned up.

Very nice man I wish I had the time to work on mine like you do LOL. Also a tip for others on that cop set up. I seen others run 2.7 liter intrepid cop on a 420a without ms. I'll post the picture if I can find it. And on your radiator hoses you should weld up some 16 an fittings. I seen another build like that it looks really clean. Hopefully you will get her turbo'd soon! Good luck
 
I saw the 2.7l coil set up before but wanted to try something new. I need to get the cam sensor signal degreed a little to get the signals back in sync.

Also the pic you posted will work without ms but the whole point of the Audi coils is to run sequencial fuel and spark.

I looked into -16 and -20 but I just don't have the $200 bucks right now for hose ends, bungs and hose. Plus I only have a mig welder so the mandrel bent steel was by far the cheaper way to go but I can always switch it later on.

I wish I had more time to work on the car!!!
 
Thank you. I have learned so much and have so much fun working on the car. I wont be in Ma for much longer though... moving to Cincinnati Ohio in June. Still working for the same company just a better job offer to move out there.

Plus I will only be 4 hours from the DSM vs EVO shootout. no more excuses for missing it now!!
 
It should work. You would have to look into it more. I am not sure if jayson has more links but some quick googling you could find it.

Like I said I never looked into it much since I wanted to run sequential.
 
Did some xmas shopping for myself. Got a nice complete fuse box and engine harness so I can start on the wire tuck and remove the ECU and fuse box from the engine bay.

Also got the knock module kit for the MS3x and then some various AN fittings.
 
The 2.7l intrepid coil does have a slight advantage over the stock coil. It can be ran on the stock ecu it even works for turbo with an Fmu set up. Alot of people do it to make the valve cover and coil wiring look clean. There are write ups on 2GNT.com I think or neon. Org can't remember which one.

The Neon folks started using COP coils because, in turbocharged Neons, the stock coil was too close to the turbo and eventually failed due to the heat. IMO, there's no advantage to using them on a DSM with the stock PCM.
 
From a little searching mostly on neons.org I gather that its more of a cool factor than a performance gain when it comes to a stock pcm. Since your going from 2 coils to 4 you need to add an inline coil driver and still risk burning out the stock coil driver because of how hard it has to work. If you think about it might actually be worse than a stock setup,same spark but divide that by 2. Not to mention different resistances which can effect timing. So if your gonna do this right you need megasquirt.
