Toronto,
hey i talked with a few honda friends of mine and they are telling me all dsm owners they know got their cars parked in their garages broken...LOL
is it true that dsms arent reliable? any bad experiences with them here?

Well just like any other car, if you mod the hell out of it there will be problems. If you leave it fairly stock you should be ok. I've been running mine with my mods with no problems, except a alternator, and a water pump. I doubt this was do to any of my mods though. I think most of the tuners will agree though that any problems are well worth the rewads of driving a DSM.

DSM = Doesn't Stay Moving
DSM = Daily Service & Maintenance

actually, i havent had any problems with mine yet. But it all comes down to the driver, most DSM drivers like to abuse the shit out of their car. :shhh: But if you are good to it, it is good to you. :dsm: but either way, they are worth it. Sure, your friends honda's are nicer and usually more comfortable, and get better gas mileage. But they are just telling you not to get one because they dont want to get SMOKED! OMG DSM owns

i dont tihnk hondas are that bad...my honda has around 266 hp...i bet it would beat the hell out of some of the dsms here ;)
(not to mention if i install a nitrous systeM)!

Oh no, not ragging on hondas at all. but pound for pound, price for price. you have to admit that the DSM owns. I mean a typical civic with a i/h/e d16y8, vs. a awd dsm with i/mbc/e, i think the dsm wins. it would be in the same price category. i have always thought that hondas are nicer more comfortable cars than my 2g. but my 2g smokes the shit out of my old prelude i used to have.

im confused about the car i want. i really want a GST but after hearing all these reliability problems im kind of scared to get one. the cart has to get me to school and WORK, because i have to pay for it. now how bad is the reliability with just like I/E/BOV/MBC? i hoping its not bad because i will only have one car, and to keep it running i need to go to work, to go to work i need the car-you know how it goes. so im kinda scared to get one. any help about this?

Holy crap! You guys have had bad experiences, I have a 99 eclipse GS and I havent had one freaking problem at all....actually, after my strut bars and CAI and cat-back, it seems my car's engine runs smoother and the DSM handles potholes plus corners pretty well for its weight. BTW ive only had my car for a year and three months....maybe thats it, but I beat the shit out of it considering im ALWAYS WOT.

its a '99, us guys with '90s or whatever aint exactly having fun. but the way i think of it.... no matter how much money i put into this car for repairs, it has to stop sometime.

My 95 GST is completely stock. 135,000 miles, and I must say that while I have had problems, there is such a wealth of knowledge its too easy to figure out how to fix things. Couple of things I've run into...Lifter tick? yup, you bet (but not much of a problem if you don't mind listening to it). Squealing alternator belt? Oh yeah, and if you don't change or tighten it, it will break and leave you SOL. Leaking valve gasket? Uh huh, but its sssooo easy to fix. So, basically things will happen but they will to every car. The nicest thing about the DSM has to be the community. I cannot stress how nice it is to be able to find an answer to anything about the car.

if you need a car for work and school, i strongly suggest u dont go for a dsm
i mean if ur planning on doing mods, which u obviously are, u may only #### up the thing and have to go to the shop 3 times a month
id go for a jdm, like a civic or lude, theyr reliable for everyday driving, and u can do minor mods like the one's u had in mind and u wont lose reliablity at all

Additive driving pattern is what it could be called when you sit in a GST, or GSX... people like to hear the turbo spool up, the bov sound off, and just the feel of getting on it, or slam'in it into the next gear. In my view, the tranny is not the strongest build in the world, but the engines are pretty good. When I got my GST (70K Miles on it) I had to rebuild the tranny... you really have to make sure that what you got wasn't rag'd... shopping' for our cars is dangerous. Its the same thing as any other honda civic si around here, you KNOW that someone has ran it alot, and slam'd on the gears.. Maintain your car, respect it, and it will be reliable... You can beat the ish outa any car and have it break in now time... I granny shift, at 5.5K, if not 6, thats WHILE I'm running it. I don't see much point in pushing it hard everytime... (I got the stock turbo, unless its a close run, I take my good ol' time.)

Anyways... keep up with your car, and your car can keep up with you.

Or it will be a "DSM - Doesn't stay moving" car...

Our parts are up abit more in price also in my eyes. :shhh:

Things to remember.

1. ANY car can break when you start modding it and making real power.

2. Just because one person has a piece of shit does not mean ALL DSMs are shit.

3. Your car is only as reliable as you are attentive. If you don't pay attention to your cars needs... that squeaky break pad you ignore today could be that rotor your replacing tomorrow.

yea other than a GST i was also thinking about a 4 door Integra GSR (DB8) or a Milano Red Civic Si (EM1) :shhh: . i guess the DSM will have to wait a few years. i really wanted a 97-99 one though :thumbdown . oh well. thanks for your help :thumb:

The difference between a Turbo'd Eclipse/Talon and a Honda is a Eclipse/Talon are well-respected out the door. In a Honda you have to beat something worth a crap to get any sort of reputation.

When I see a Honda I think "Oh god, another Honda."
When I see a Talon/Eclipse I think "Nice car."

That would be around here anyway, where a turbo Eclipse/Talon is 1 out of every 30 hondas.

If you really are going to get a Honda, either keep it stock or do SERIOUS upgrades...no a muffler tip is not a serious upgrade.

im not a ricer buddy  just because i wanted a honda that was the first thing you assumed, good job

I have driven my DSM almost 100k miles, and had no problems until I started modding heavily. Even some of those could have been prevented by planning ahead.

RayDez doesn't own a DSM, and only "knows people" who do. Don't let your car choice be based on ignorance and hearsay.

How in the heck would a Honda be better looking, more comfortable then a DSM... I would take a 1g laser, over any ugly P.O.S. honduh, even if it was turbo.
shit I would take my old 2g eclipse nt over any honda in the world. even a nsx. why, cuz it was way more comfortable and way better looking. and i had the frickin RS with no sideskirts!

Honda = Subaru with worse engines, both cars are but ugly! :barf:

at least Subaru got some* Decent Engine/drivetrain combo's

*=Stock STi Engine

you, sir...........are on crack OMG
agreed.
if you(jessestalon) have that point of view about, it is not even worth it for me to say anymore. i never said hondas were betting looking, just overall craftsmanship. liek the interior for example. i love my dsm too, but my prelude was easier/more comfortable to drive. the steering wheel was smaller than a sewer lid(2g wheels are friekin huge), and the windshield wasnt slanted liek a mother ####er and was easier to see out of.

but w OMG w, a $17,000 mitsubishi vs. a $85,000 Acura NSX. you are nuts, and have your shit all messed up. aparrently you have never driven an NSX, or even sat in one for that matter. WOW!

He has a love for his car, I see nothing wrong with that. To put it in perspective however I would take an evolution over a nsx any day
