I did everything correct I downloaded the program updated the program and down loaded the drivers. Then I also updated my laptop windows update. I tried all 3 USB ports and i know my diag port works because ive used different data tools with it.
:notgood::mad::confused:
Im starting to think its either my laptop or my link. I did buy the link used from a respected member. The car starts and idles fine. With no problems I just cannot get a response on the program. Any ideas?

**Update**
Anyone tell me anything i made a video. To see if im missing something.

Maybe stupid question, but do you have a socketed eprom with a chip installed? Check the on position...but if you go on the ecmlink website they have a troubleshooting page for no connection issues.

Suggestions may be a bad cord, bad room fuse, bad obd connector or burnt out pin.

I've had the same issue. It turned out that the firmware on the ECU was outdated. If you upgraded the program to the newest, and the ECU has the old firmware, this will cause a "no response" condition.

Unfortunately to do the firmware upgrade, you have to send it in to ECM Tuning to get that upgraded.

Since your car starts and drives fine, it seems to be getting power and functioning just fine.

Just a quick check before you send it out... Open up your ECU and make sure that it, no kidding has the 2G DSM Link chip. Also, make sure that when you connect up the OBDII to USB cable to the laptop, it blinks. And make sure it also blinks as you attempt to connect.

Go to DSMlink.com and check out the forums there. Youll have to get an account registered if you dont already have one.

All in all, I think it's a firmware issue. One the ECU is upgraded with the current firmware, you'll be golden.

They key is in the on position the ecu is a eprom and chipped. I tried getting on the dsmlink forums but it wont let me make a account says i have to contact admin or something. The cord does not light up connecting to my laptop but flashes when trying to connect. At this point im going to try my buddies laptop and see where i end up.

I had the same problem and sent a email to ECMlink trying to figure it out... this is what they sent me (copied directly from my email).

A few of the older V3 cables have had an issue where they have developed an open internal connection. If squeezing the two largest sides of the box in the middle of the cable toward each other, particularly near the end opposite the LED, allows the connection to succeed, then the cable needs to be replaced.

This ended up being my issue and was sent a new cable.

What OS are you running? Win 7 or 8? Does Windows recognize a cable plugged in and if it does, is there a COMM port it associates with? Windows 7 will pop-up a small icon over your task bar if it's recognizing and it'll display a port identity.. Try plugging in the cable with the car on, navigate to Device Manager, and on the toolbar, select Action - Scan for hardware changes.. Of course try re-installing drivers, but another computer as a control will also be effective in eliminating possible causes. Good luck!

when u plug it in it makes a noise and thats about it nothing says anythign about a com port. I posted a video of what happens

My connection problem ended up being my cable. It worked fine for a long time then after I changed my headgasket it didn't work. I was freaking out. Cables seem to be a pretty common problem. Also make sure all of your diagnostic port's pins are locked in. Take a pair of needle nosed pliers, and give them a gentle tug one at a time to make sure they are locked in place. To make sure they don't push in when you plug in your ECM Link plug.

When you first turn your ignition on does your check engine light stay on for roughly 5 seconds? Have you tried using a scan tool plugged into the obd2 port? Did it connect with the car? or checked voltage at the obd2 port?
