Okay I am on a serious budget, I saw in a post that someone was saying all the mods to their car and what he should do next to his car. A few said get rid of his SAFC 2, and get a datalogger.... I dont understand the point of a datalogger, it can only give data right? Like to record data, but it cannot tune right? Can the SAFC tune? Why would you want a datalogger over a SAFC then??? Can the SAFC let you vent you BOV in the atmosphere?

How are you going to tune the S-AFC without a logger is what the question should be.. uh.. you cant!

Thats like changing the channel on a TV with your eyes closed and the speakers broke.. what channel am I on? I dunno my eyes are closed!

The S-AFC will not let you vent.. you would need the GM MAS + MAFT combo for that. (which you would need a logger for that as well)

DSMlink is a totally different product that offers logging and tuning options as well as other features neither of the previous ones can do. It must be used with a 95 EPROM ECU for a 2nd gen car though. You should also have a laptop to use with it.

Hmmm...I think you might've misread...it is pointless to have a datalogger instead of a tuning device..you use the logger WITH the tuning device. (Safc/datalogger).

You also might be confused on what DSMLink is; DSMLink is a tuning device that is the pricier route for tuning/logging, but also gives you a much more broad range for timing and tuning. It really is a cool product and I recommend you go check out their website to read up on all the features and see if it is for you.

whoa, serious misconceptions here. okay, first off, if you buy a SAFC to tune safely you will need a logger to count knock, help adjust fuel maps, check throttle position, and so on. the SAFC can only help you adjust fuel trims, you need a logger to check and see how the fuel trims you adjusted are effecting your car. DSM link will work as a SAFC and a logger, it is near a stand alone system. stand alone meaning, it replaces the full ECU and you tune with a laptop. an SAFC is a "piggyback unit" meaning it is you tee'd into wiring from your SAFC into wiring on the ECU, then the logger just plugs into the diagnostic port in your car and that is how you monitor and tune. DSMlink is an awesome tool, but costly. you use DSMlink to tune and adjust fuel trims, you need no SAFC or datalogger to use DSMlink. you can do a finer tune with DSMlink because it shows you exactly what is going on and how to correct it and whatnot. so in short, you need a safc and a datalogger to tune safely, or you can ditch both of those and go with DSMlink. then secondly, you dont really want to vent you BOV to the atmosphere, but you can do it without a safc, logger, or dsmlink. all that venting your BOV consists of is plugging off the dump tube that goes back into the intake tube on the turbo, and that is pretty much it. you may have problems with idle and running rich...some people dont.

DSMLink has a a host of options available that the SAFC doesn't have. DSMLink will allow your to set your car up whether it has the 1G MAS, 2G MAS, or a GM MAF. Additionally, it allows you not only to adjust your fuel maps, but your timing as well. DSMLink will cost you more, but in the long run you'll be much better off with it. Save up your cash and get the DSMLink.

id reply - but i think you guys got it pretty well covered.

btw - the only proper way to vent is with standalone at best or maft at least.

The logger I would problably get is the pocket logger since i cant afford DSM link, since loggers are not true stand alone sytems, you cannot vent into the atmosphere if you have a pocket logger and the SAFC?

A GM MAS goes AFTER the BOV, so the GM MAS doesnt caculate the air that was vented . The 2G MAS is BEFORE the BOV, so it already caculate the air before the BOV so venting will throw of your MAS and make it run super rich; because its dumping more fuel but the air isnt there. This leads to shitty gas mileage and sometimes backfire when i vented :dsm:

in other words: YOU CANT VENT PROPERLY WITH A 2G MAS YOU DAMN RICER

i vented cause i got a Blitz DD BOV for $50 but as soon as i had enough money i sold it to a RICER (like you) for $150 and got the Greddy Type-S. SO dont try to compare me and you. Anyway if your gonna vent do it right get a GM MAS and a MAFT dont half ass it :dsm:
