This is dealing only with FWD since i am comparing fwd cars. I don't have much knowledge on DSM's so help me on this one. What is going to handle better on a grip run?
DSM Turbo (GST, TSI)
or
Honda Civic 88-91

I heard that DSMs dont have the best handling but they aren't that great either. I've heard of one incident where one ran into the railing on a mountain run. I am considering to buy either car so that's why I ask. Plus money is an issue esp. dealing with insurance, newer car, turbo, etc (18, M, Clean record). Thanks

I like the way my tsi handles. It has Eibach prokit and rear camber kit with blown shocks all around and it doesn't handle bad at all. With new shocks it will be great. I love pulling the e-brake and doing some drifting every once and a while too. :D

The fwd cars dont handle all that bad, they do have a whole lot of body roll and slide around pretty good at an autox course. I know the first time i ran autox my friend ran with me in his brand new wrx, and my times were better, now i know that can be blamed on driving, but i was only 4 or 5 seconds behind other stock wrxs with decent drivers. Throw some strut bars and stabilizers, some new wheels and tires, and the car will be good to go on the course.

I have stock suspension with no mods at all. I think the car handles like ass. I can get my way around cars pretty quick, but I when I raced a civic through the twisties, it quickly caught up with me around those corners. I blew it away at the straight line yet, it still caught up.

I beleive the honda will handle a good deal better it weighs way way less. I don't know thw exact numbers for the cars your looking at but I believe the GST is around 28 or 2900 pounds, the 88 CRX is around 2000, the civic is probably a little more but not much. I would guess the civics center of gravity is a little higher though due to the narrower wheelbase and high roof but a lot of it also depends on how much that roof weighs.
Going NA honda to NA Eclipse I would deffinately take the honda but the turbo DSM is a little different story. They bothe have their advantages and dissadvanteges. Take each for a good test drive and see which you like more.

handling wise it gets better the faster youre going.

as far as doing a 180 you better have 3 lanes of space to turn this battleship.

i have stock suspension and the handling is fine for me but i came from a v8 Camaro which has jack for handling. if u get tires and a strut bar u will be good to go! i would get new shocks n spring later on but as for the first modifications.. tires and strut bar.
