after about 4-5 months, i finally finished my build... i thought. about 2 weeks ago it started making a noise in the tranny. i had just hired a -master tech- at my job and he said (without looking at the car... its still home) it was the TOB. symptoms are:

theres a noise but it goes away when the clutch is pressed; appears when its engaged-- exactly like this video: YouTube - Input Shaft Bearing?

but everyone on here says that if the tob was bad it would make noise when its engaged and go away when the pedal isnt pressed.... and that it would be an input shaft bearing (according to the searches ive done and my symptoms)

so i dropped my trans today and inspected the input shafts... the main one has no play, the xcase shaft has slight play in and out and none side to side... i made a video showing thisYouTube - Dsm tranny shaft test

i tried to rock the clutch/flywheel to see if the flywheel bolts had came loose, but i had no play-- so im guessing thats good... or should i remove the clutch to recheck the FW bolts-- unnecessary?

let me know what you think -- thanx

EDIT:--almost forgot... a few days ago i was going to go on a test drive and i had trouble shifting into gear (1,2 and reverse) also when i would move the car, it would feel like the car/clutch wouldnt engage and then all of a sudden "catch" and then move.. this was at low speeds (3mph-ish... i was just moving the car in the driveway)

Remove the throwout bearing and see if its bearings are still ok by spinning its race.

also, take note of my "edit" in post number 1

tob looks good... any white stuff you see on my tob is from grease i sprayed on it before i re-installed it

and if it was my input shaft bearing, then i suspect it would have been the main shaft, not the xcase one-- i think i read on here someplace that play in the xcase shaft is common/ok?

I figured I'd post in here too since I already talked to you on Facebook. Check the springs on the ACT2600...

replaced the clutch, used the same TOB because i figured it was still good... problem still is there... what are the chances that it would be the input shaft bearing if there is no play in it? the guy i purchased the car from told me it was a TRE stage 2 tranny. it had about 75-100 miles on it and he started to have engine probs, the car sat for 2 yrs and then i purchased it off of him. so im skeptical on a ISB going so fast on a built tranny with low miles.

i launched it a few times everything was fine... im not sure exactly when the noise occurred or what i did right before it started. is there anything i can check before i rip this thing apart again?

welp for later views-- it turned out to be the input shaft bearing! funny how it happened 2weeks and 2miles after using syncromesh !!! tranny has sub-100 miles on it. lesson learned... redline here i come!
