Ok so i just got my car back from its build, and we had to put a 90 tranny in it becouse the 92 trany failed along with the engine in august, so tonight i was drivng at 20 mph in 3rd gear all off a sudden the started jerking back and forth and then there wasa loud bang from the middle/ back of the car and the rear tires like locked up, so i go to the side of thr road and the car smokes if youtry to drive it and smells like clutch and it is very hard to move, you have to rev to 4k to get it to start rolling and 3 grown men can barly push the car in nuetral, what happened! Hopefully not an engine issue, it still idles fine

If it shifts fine through all the gears and the engine dosent seem to have any problems or act any different, than what it is is most likely a transfer case issue. A diff can also do that. But transfer case is the first suspect. What you should do is stop driving it and take it apart to see what is wrong. If you keep driving it like that you put a lot of strain on the tranny and on the engine.
Good luck.

Sounds like the transfer case took a dump; I had this happen this summer blown seal...no lube, so say good bye T case. Usually the rest of the drive train is okay. Don't drive it; repair it before you damage the transmission. A great time to change all the drive train oils and a clutch.

There was fluid leaking from the tcase onto the drive shaft, or maybe thats the centerdiff that goes into the drive shaft. I judt out in a brand new 2600 , will i prbably have to replace it, and also do u think i damaged my motor, it idles fine, no cels nothing crazy on ecm link either no noises from motor

as long as there is not ticking /slapping noises or lack of power coming from the motor you should be fine

all tho if you did drive it like that for a long time, you did put a lot of stress on the main bearings, You can check that by taking of the oil pan and taking one of the main caps off. But i still think you're ok and its not damaged

You don't have to replace the clutch, you don't even have to remove the tranny. Unbolt the transfer case, slide it off, and pull it out of the drive shaft, it's real simple.

Ok thanks guys, when it happened i drove it 15 feet, then shut it off for an hour and then drove it 10 feet in reverse into my garage, hopefully no engine damage, and i have a 90 tranny, does that mean i need a 90 tcase?

I think all of the 1 g transfer cases are the same, but do make sure tho. Check if there is the same amount of splines on it and check if the pattern is the same to make sure it will bolt up to the output shaft and the driveshaft. Just look at the old one.

If the transfer case locked up and the OP tried to drive the car anyway, dragging the rears as if the emergency brake was on, then he could very well have trashed the clutch and maybe damaged the center VC, too.
