Alright. A few weeks ago I took my 1991 Eagle Talon Tsi to the track (drag strip). First off shifting between gears was difficult, trying to go from first to second, second to third. When i was getting ready to shift, i had to let off the gas and let the revs drop down, then granny shift it into gear then back on the gas. Ran horrible times.

On my final pass, I was trying to slip the clutch at 4,000 rpm. I had a ACT 2600 clutch kit in the car with their lightweight flywheel. Trying to slip the clutch it actually grab and the car jerked me and i pushed the clutch back in and dumped it a second time within a few milliseconds of each other. The car was running just fine, but had to pick up/no acceleration. I coasted through the quarter mile at 54 seconds. I towed it home. Ordered a spec stage 3+ clutch kit. Installed it. Still doing the same thing, it feels like the clutch is slipping really bad, but you can gradually shift through all the gears, and hear no noises or even grinding. The car feels like a slug, with zero power.

Also, I notice that my driver side rear axle is broke off in the differential. Could it be just the differential? Or could it be the vicous coupling in my transfer case?

I have been talking to multiple guys and trying on the forum to find out what it may be. This has been a headache trying to figure it out. I have lots of experience in the parts scene, and mechanical aspect, but when it comes to the drivetrain i need some extra help.

Any questions just post up and ask, but i really need to figure this out.

He is talking about switching your rear diff to a 4 bolt, you have a 3 bolt.

So what axle is broke? And is that the only one? A broken axle will make the car drive rwd, sometimes fwd like and anything. That needs fixing.

The viscous coupling is in the transmission, not the transfer case.

I would jack the car completely off the ground, and see if all 4 wheels are working like they should. If you turn the front tires and the drive shaft doesn't move at all, then that's a good sign something is wrong.

If it is your center diff, which can be broken if you are dumping the clutch hard, like side stepping it, even at 4k its hard to imagine but the best way to tell is to go slow in a parking lot. See if your tires skip when you you do a tight as possible tun at like 5 miles and hour, or try inching forward very slow, does the car feel like its binding up like the diff is welded? That will be a broken center diff.

Check all fluids and inspect for leaks for the trans, the transfer case and rear diff for damage.

After I put the new clutch in it, my car was still on the lift and all wheels were moving except my drivers side rear, and thats when I noticed that the axle was broke off in the differential. But besides that, the car was still driving like it did when I broke it at the track. When turning in the parking lot (which i actually did at the track) nothing was popping at all, I even had my buddy hold each front axle as i slowly turned to make sure both the fronts were turning and nothing was popping.

Thats when it blew my mind, even after I put the clutch in. But also, at the track I lost all peddle pressure after my incident. Put the new clutch in and still have no peddle even after bleading it.

Could it be my rear differential causing me not to move fast,

but then the old clutch you can see on the pressure plate and on the flywheel where it got really hot. It feels like its slipping really bad. Is there a way to blow the clutch master cylinder? or something? cause i really am confused by what the car is doing.

You could give TRE an e-mail, [email protected]. Within a few hours he usually responds. Calling can take some time because it is one line and they are bussy from open to close. I ahd a broken center diff and wasn't sure if it was the xcase or not and he was able to give me key tests to rule out possibliities.

I would get that axel at least fixed. Start with what you know

If I think of something in the mean time I will post back! Good luck, e-mail him, it will be worth it!
