Long time Dsmer coming back after many years. I recently bought a beaten 2g and I'm slowly rebuilding it. I want to make sure I can bring engine/drivetrain and anything else up to spec.

I found out that DSM's are now short on some OEM parts and I'm looking to rebuild my driveshaft from 0 so I will be sourcing the parts from different vendors.

I plan on putting down 350-400 whp and I wanted to know if anyone has any experience with the Moog 398 U joints? Anyone with some experience putting down some power and them holding up? I read in some posts that they are the best closest thing to OEM.

I rebuilt the driveshaft on my 1G '92 Talon TSi AWD last summer using these u-joints and haven't had any problems. Then again my car is stock putting out 195HP nominally and I don't race or push it too hard so we have pretty different use cases.

If you're worried about them holding up I'd go with OEM. Try Amayama which probably has them and cheaper than US dealers.

I usually go with OEM unless it's much more expensive, and I got these Moogs at closeout prices, under $9 each at RockAutowhich was crazy cheap.

Btw the Moogs don't have grease fittings so they're solid.

Guys, thank you very much for the valuable information.

@jdxnc have you tried those GMB 220-0107? I see that you you are 9's.. that's impressive! Are you on OEM U joints or those aftermarket?

@XC92 Thanks a lot for the info. I will look into Amayama.

Rebuilding it was kind of a satisfying experience. I took everything apart, cleaned and derusted everything, treated and painted with POR-15, then put it all back together with the new u-joints. I didn't replace the carrier bearings because I was short on time so I decided to punt it till next year. But it's run just fine so far.

Not on mine personally, it has a DSS carbon shaft.

@XC92 ahh ok, thanks for the info!

@jdxnc I probably don't even need a rebuild but just to be on the safe side I want to freshen it up. Especially for a car that has 25 years. Thanks for all the valuable info.
