i have a 98 gst i went over a speedbump and snaped the engine mount studs. My question is how would i go about fixing the studs i see that it is a bracket. will i need to completely remove the engine to replace said bracket? or could i thread in a new stud? not sure if the stud closest to the firewall is broke or not. Would i be better off replacing it with a poly mount? i call mitubishi said oem mount would be $67. Was wondering where i could get the bracket non of the junk yards out here have 4g63's. Anyone have one i could buy?

forgive me if im posting in the wrong section. I havent been on this site in quite some time.

Thanks in advance :)

just get in the habit of always buying new bolts when you work on things, they are like 20 years old. theres a nice thread somewhere on here with all the bolt information, cheaper and better than OEM to just but em from a nuts and bolts website.

Unless the fasteners are severely rusty I see no reason for this. Here in the south its not a problem.

Op you need to find the root cause. Are all the motor mounts ok? Did you hit the oil pan on the ground?

I did not hit the oil pan. I checked all the other mounts they seem fine. The upper mount is trashed for sure.

Can i remove the bracket to replace it whilst the engine is still in the car? by supporting the engine with a jack and piece of wood?

greatly appreciate the feedback guys

Happened to me once on my old GSX.

Jack the motor up and remove the side motor mount. Remove the broken studs. Order new studs, nuts, and bolt from JNZ or wherever. Put everything back together.

I'm guessing mine broke due to improper installation and they just snapped from vibrations. Follow proper torque sequence when installing.

You cannot take off that bracket without taking the belt off. I was T/S an oil leak and that bracket was one of the things I wanted to take off to see if the bolt punctured through into an oil galley and the belt had to come off. The studs should easily be replaceable with the engine still in. If I remember tonight, I'll check CAPs for the P/N.

aren't they threaded? or just tapped in ><im a noob just don't wanna screw it up honestly don't have the means or time to replace that bracket i don't want to do it wrong.
