So this morning it was really cold. I went to move my car but it was stuck because it just snowed and I think it was frozen to the ground. (its a Minnesota thing) The roads were pure snow and I started driving to school but I could not go straight. I had someone stand out side the car and watch me drive and it turns out that the drivers side rear wheel is locked up and dragging in the snow. I know it is not the brake or E brake because when I go in reverse the wheel turns no problem! also I just put a rear diff in but don’t rule that out because it was used. What could be the problem? :beatentodeath:

Had the wheel turned correctly since you installed the differential? Have you removed the wheel and looked? Try jacking the car up and see if the wheel will rotate forwards by pushing it with your arm. Will it rotate in neutral? with the clutch in? Sorry so many questions, but the more we know, the more we can offer.

After I installed the used differential it worked great until now. I have not yet removed the wheel but it looks like there is possibly oil coming leaking out of the differential but its really cold outside and I don’t have a garage so I haven’t checked thoroughly yet. I jacked up the side with the stuck wheel and it will move backwards but when it goes forwards it seems like there is something that clicks in every inch so there is like an inch of free play then it locks if that makes any sense. Reminds me of something like this…

my rear diff is leaking oil so im thinking something seized because of extreme heat then extreme cold? ill tell you what happens because im going to open up the rear end i guesse thats the only way to get to the bottom of it. But i still cant undrestand why it will go back
but not forward?!?!?!?

Ok so i took out the rear differential and it was out of oil. But when its out of the car everything turns fine and it seems like it works. But now the problem is that I cant get it back in like the bolts are not fitting right! and when i spin the wheel the differential like moves around i cant figure it out please help!!!

do you have a haynes manual or chiltons ? I would use that as a resource. Maybe somethings need positioned an exact way for it to go in and you got lucky the first time.
