drive rod knocking Eclipse 40 miles on the Highway?

So I've got rod knock. Its only been about 1-2 miles since I heard it, should I drive it out to AMS about 40 miles away if/when I decide to use them or should I be on the lookout for a good tow service? It seems like I'm replacing the turbo and short block as well as getting the head cleaned up, so would I really be hurting anything else by doing it?

just making plans for the largest purchase I've ever made.

Heh, I'll play your game.

I'm guessing the answer was no.... but to answer you I would have guessed maybe yes (thats why I asked simply because it seemed that what the rebuild outlined is probably going to get replaced... but metal shavings flying around isn't much fun.

On the other side of the fence, I read someone saying they were driving their rod-knocker until it died, but I am a reasonable n00b at internals (understand many parts and workings, looked at alot of engines, but havn't built any) and have no idea how soon this could cripple and kill an engine. the highway speeds give plenty of shaving filled oil flow, but not as much as driving 40 miles in the city.

pay to get it towed, it would prolly be cheaper and less time consuming in the end than say, if you get halfway there, blow the motor, have to call a tow anyways and waste 2 hours waiting for them.

Thats true, you can wait those two hours in the comfort of your own home or inside your car bored as hell. I'd have it come to my house instead of the open.

get AAA for 90 bux, Push it into the street and call them to tow it. that waty u got a hole year of towing payed for.

i took mine to the last shoot out with my rod knocking and back. but i got lucky that it didn't spin. i just through some new bearings in it and its fine now.

Well, think about it this way, it's possible you could seriously screw up the block if something comes loose. Are you getting your engine rebuilt? If so, that's something to consider. You would have to buy another core. And if you're buying a new engine and you give them a fooked up block, you're going to have to pay the core charge. Up to you
