I don't think I've seen this question asked before and its purely hypothetical.

Is it possible to drive an awd dsm WITHOUT a driveshaft or would that mess up the front and rear ends?

^This is what I'd expect, a couple of minutes or less in gear spinning will sharply heat lock the VCD but it will cool and free-wheel again after a short period. With the stock viscous coupling type center diff, you run the risk of burning it up depending on how far you go with the car. If the center diff is welded or using a VCE, then you should be okay. Just remember the torque is going to find the easiest path out, whether it's through turning the front wheels or through destroying the weakened diff that has undergone several miles of continuously heating-locking and then cooling-releasing repeatedly.
