i've been looking at getting a carbon fiber hood for my 1g tsi but i read somewhere that if you didn't drill the holes for the pins right it would spider crack throughout the hood. is this true and if so can somoeone tell me how to drill my hood so i don't throw a couple hundred bucks down the drain.
thanks

The best way to do it that i have learnd was take your time. Use a diamond tipped bit and drill slow dont put pressure on it let the bit pull down and you will be ok.

Simple.
a) Find the smallest drill bit you can find
b) Put the drill on the slowest speed
c) Don't put pressure on the hood when you drill
d) When you make a small hole, upgrade your bits to make the hole bigger. Don't jump from a 2mm bit to a 1/2" bit.

Use safety glasses, the fiber will get everywhere. When you are done, take a shower, if you don't, you'll be scratching yourself for hours.

right

take it slow...don't use a lot of pressure...and I found that using tape over where you will drill will help keep it from cracking and protect the surrounding surface.

ok, so I knew about the tape, and this may be stupid, but which side have you guys drilled through from. I feel like you have to go from the bottom to the top to line it up properly, but would you then put tape on the top so when the bit gets to the c/f layer after the fiberglass you will not experience cracking? IDK if that makes any sense but I will be installing mine this weekend given I pass inspection on friday (I have no idea if a cf hood would pass inspection in this state)

I went from the bottom (after I marked a spot) and when the hole at the bottom was big enough and it made a small hole on the top layer, I went from the top. I have a 1 inch gap between those layers on my hood where I have my hood pins installed.
