Well just to get in this thread.......I wrecked my car about a year ago and got the insurance to get me a VIS hood. So I dont know where they got it from. Also, when I wrecked my car my radiator support got jacked and my hood latch is messed up. My hood does not sit anywhere near level, (goes down more on the drivers side) So since I have to pull my hood release lever 3 times until I hear a pop noise, then go over to the hood and pry it open with my hands and plenty of arm strength, I feel like hoodpins are not that mandatory at the moment. (although I have a set of silver sparco pins that I could use whenever I get the guts to drill holes in my hood and finally install them.)

The VIS hood is very good quality, very nice fit, and was packaged extremely well. If you want a VIS hood, I recommend going to VIS directly. They were very helpful to us when we ordered our hoods.

A local guy who didnt invest in hood pins has had his CF hood fly up a couple of times. Needless to say, the hood was destroyed. If you are ok with buying a new hood when it happens, dont worry about it. If you dont like flushing money down the toilet, get hood pins.

Whoever said it's slim to none on having your hood fly up better stop giving out bad advice. Hood pins are mandatory on all carbonfiber hoods. Rarely somebody gets by without them, but most of the time if you don't put them on you can kiss your windshield, hood, and roof good bye. I've seen cars it's happened to in real life, and if you read any of the other thousand threads on this subject it's unanymous that you should use hood pins. Even though the hood has a latch, it's just glued on so it's not that sturdy. It's worth the $20 to invest in the hood pins over the thousands in damage it could cause.

By the way, my VIS hood is excellent and I would also recommend them.

I totally agree with you. Im just saying Im in no hurry to install the hoodpins I have because 1) I feel that due to the wreck I had, my hood is pretty darn secure 2) I dont have the time nor guts to drill holes in my hood in order to install my pins, and I cant afford to pay anyone to do it. Granted I will go through with it sooner or later. But For those in question , Its an absolute MUST to get hoodpins, they are only $20 Bucks!

MMMMMMM, my car looks so sexy now! I'll post a pic in a few days with my pin insatll Pins are easy and cheap to install, not worth the risk of leaving them out! I too have seen the wrath of a hood flying up. The local guy, as TOTalon has mentioned, had it happen multiple times. He got a new hood now, and still hasnt installed pins, not the brightest bulb on the tree.


Dont hesitate to go to VIS, the costemer service is top notch. Paul (TOTalon) and I had a very smooth transaction, and their shipping comapny actually called me today to ask how the delivery went! Hows that for customer service?!

BTW, drilling the hood is gravey. you drill it smaller, dont worry about the chipping clear coat, because the dremel will do the rest. Carbon fiber HATES being drilled, but LOVES being cut by a carbide bit or an abreasive. Start small, then dremel your way to the crrect size, it cuts nicely, real nice! gravey man! Dont be scared

Here is my hood.

I drove around for a little bit with no pins, but just couldn't stand the thought of it flying open so I pinned it with a set of Sparco pins. They don't look that bad and really help to level the hood out so it's even all around and hold it shut tight. With the pins there is absolutly no way it could possibly fly open unless you ripped a huge hole in your hood that went past the whole pin assembly or the huge rod thats in the rad support broke or something like that.

Worth the money IMO for the peace of mind. Easy to install too.
