Downpipe recomendations please

What would you do? I have a '92 Talon AWD with a stock exhaust. I plan on upgrading in the near future when $$$ is available. The problem is that it is time for emissions testing and I have a leak in the flex section. A local shop can replace the flex part for $100 but I would rather use that money to upgrade the downpipe and then do the rest of the exhaust when I can. Is there any problem with running a 2 1/2 pipe into the restrictive stock exhaust? What are the problems with connecting a larger downpipe to the stock cat? Should I just pay the $100 to patch my stock downpipe and upgrade the downpipe when I can do the whole exhaust? Any recommendations on a pipe the will fit the stock cat?

I would recommend to just replace the stock flex and when you get the money for the exhaust i would say either get the entire exhaust or start with a cat back and then get a downpipe for it IMO by getting the downpipe first is a not such a good i idea i rather the ehaust sqeeze a little when exiting the turbo and then opening up in the exhuast and also instead of 2.5" i would go full 3" but that depends on future mods so good luck ...I hope this helps

Exactly. I would go with the flex section now. When the time comes I would go with a 3'' cat- back and downpipe. RRE sells DP's short and long (Keep the cat- Short, Cat delete- Long). Then later on go with a full 3''turbo back.

I have a 94 AWD Talon and I went with a Buschur 2 1/2 inch down pipe, it worked well for me. Unless you're going to build a truly wild engine in the future I wouldn't waste the money going to 3 inch system. You will need a flat exhaust gasket to go between the connecting areas.
