Does this bracket serve any purpose other than to mount the AC pump to?

I want to take it off, but I am going to wait unitl I put the engine in my car and bolt everything up, unless you guys tell me it needs to be there. i haven't looked at it in a couple days, I know it has two pointy things coming out towards the bottom, and I believe some of it looks like an "X". I can take better pictures if I am not making any sense. I removed all the AC crap I knew I could get rid of. I think I can take this off two, but I aint sure.

These are best pictures i have of what I am talking about.. sorry.

You can remove it but the intermediate shaft(driver side axle) bolts to it. You would have to make a spacer to take its place between the axle and block.

im a cheap ass and just cut the part that goes under that half shaft off and stuck it under there, that way i know its the right spacing.....kind of a bi*** to cut with hand tools too!

Ok, I will probobly just cut all the metal except for what needs to be there off. Thanks!

If you can find the correct sized washers you could use them as shims, instead of having to cut that heavy bracket.

I've had that setup on my car well over a year and have had no problems.
